Holiday In Cozumel

When Jacques Cousteau calls a place “one of the most special places to scuba dive in the world”, you should probably listen (he was a pro, after all).

Cozumel is home to the world’s second-largest reef system, plus ancient ruins, beautiful beaches and nonstop nightlife. Read on to discover all the happy snaps a holiday in Cozumel can contribute to your Facebook page.

Things to Do in Cozumel

This is the fun part: Choosing your beach! On the southern end, Palancar Beach is popular with adventure-seekers who want kayaking, snorkelling, scuba diving and sailing—and it’s also secluded enough to give you that private island feeling. Next up, head to Stingray Beach to swim with these graceful fish (yes, they’re fish!) for thrills of another kind. Got Spring Break on the brain? Whatever the season, Cozumel packages near San Miguel’s waterfront will put you front and centre to the party action.

You might not think you’ll ever want to leave the beach, but there’s tons more to see here. Book one of lastminute.com.au’s Cozumel car hire deals and head to Faro Celerain Eco Park on the southern end of the island. The selfies never end at this wildlife haven: Grab snaps with adorable sea turtles, exotic birds and crocodiles (from a safe distance, of course). For another excursion, head to the Mayan ruins of San Gervasio (watch out ladies, it’s a shine to the goddess of fertility) and explore ancient history.

Shopping, Dining & Nightlife

Tip #1 for shopping: Step away from San Miguel’s cruise ship piers. A few blocks northeast, you can find everything from silver jewellery to hammocks and ceramics in Plaza del Sol. (Once you’re home, chill out in your hammock as you sip pina coladas from your new mug and pretend you’re back in Mexico!) Further north, keep an eye out for Mayan feather paintings, intricate beaded items and tapestries—sure to impress your roommate or your new beau.

If you like fancy, get-your-hair-done restaurants with bow-tied waiters and white linen tablecloths, well, you’re mostly out of luck. Holidays to Cozumel are all about breezy, beachy, no reservations kinds of places. In San Miguel, you’ll find everything from American to Asian fare, and plenty of fresh seafood. For local flavour, take the Transversal de Cozumel to the eastern coast to dine in family-owned casas with stunning views.

The nightlife on your Cozumel holiday will be like a laid-back version of Cancun. Think all the same music-thumping clubs and stylish lounges, with shorter lines and fewer stumbling co-eds. Downtown San Miguel is always lively, or head south to Zona Hotelera Sur for live music with a view of the sparkling Caribbean Sea. And if you want those stumbling co-eds, Cancun holiday packages are just a ferry and car ride north.

Everything was great and the views were too. Wish the beach was a little bigger where it is. Maybe finding a way to open those rocks formation. Food was good and only 10 bucks to get to shopping via taxi.
