Holiday In Tropical North Queensland

Hands up if you think the definition of happiness is cocktails, sunshine and palm trees? That’s right - everyone loves a tropical holiday, and we believe our Tropical North Queensland hotels are the best way to kick off those shoes and relax.

In Tropical North Queensland, you can cool off at a blissful beach on a hot summer evening, dance the night away in a club, get lost in a rainforest or cuddle a super-cute koala. Nature lovers will be in Nirvana here, especially with two famous World Heritage-listed sites: the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest. Book your Tropical North Queensland hotel with us, switch off your smart phone and enjoy.

History

The Daintree Rainforest has certainly aged well. It’s filled with relics of the Gondwana forest that covered Australia from 50 to 100 million years ago. It was added to the World Heritage list in 1988, while the Great Barrier Reef was added in 1981.

Things to do

Here, a trip to the Great Barrier Reef is not only possible – it’s a must! There are heaps of opportunities to snorkel, scuba dive or cruise along the big blue. The coral here is so pretty you’ll want to stare at it forever, and you’ll come face to face with technicolour fish as well! Day tours of the reef operate from jumping-off points like Cairns and Port Douglas. On the shore, the beaches glow with white sand that gently slopes into warm sparkling water – just be wary of those pesky stingers that lurk in the shallow end from November to June.

If you love to bushwalk, put on your hiking shoes and head to the Daintree Rainforest. You can walk around this ancient forest alone or on a tour, and you may just find yourself on a tree-covered mountain or a quiet, peaceful beach.

Another fab spot for rainforest adventures, where the rainforest actually meets the sea, is Cape Tribulation. Just watch out for crocs! Around the Atherton Tablelands you’ll also spot lush greenery everywhere and tonnes of cute little towns like Kuranda. If you’d prefer more beach time, Mission Beach and Palm Cove are both excellent too.

Cairns used to be a quiet sugar-milling town. Now it’s a bustling tourist hotspot that’s still no less sweet. Here you can chillax at the beach or at the Cairns Esplanade Lagoon, which is also a lovely place to have a BBQ with your mates. Cairns also has markets, art galleries and museums. Because backpackers love to flock to Cairns, you’ll find no shortage of nightlife in this city. And just 14 kms away are the Crystal Cascades, a collection of waterfalls and natural swimming holes.

Shopping and dining

If you like to pick something a little different up on your shopping adventures, you’ll adore Tropical North Queensland’s markets. Cairns has both the Esplanade Markets and the Night Markets, while Kuranda has rainforest markets with a bohemian vibe and funky local crafts. Cairns also offers plenty of shopping centres, plazas and arcades including the Pier Marketplace on the Marlin Marina.

Feeling hungry? If TNQ’s markets don’t satisfy your tum, the district has a lot of other mouth-watering dining options. Areas like Cairns, Port Douglas and Trinity Beach have fancy restaurants with tasty food and wine, quiet cafes close to the beach, and many other cool places.
