Holidays in Tam An

When chucking a sickie becomes your new norm, it's time to escape the corporate treadmill and say hello to Tam An!

It's located 1,150 kilometres to the south of Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam.

Sitting 55 kilometres to the southeast, Back Beach is a lovely place to spend a little time chilling out by the water. Long Hai Beach is also home to some incredible views. You'll discover this strip of coastline 60 kilometres to the southeast.

The soft sounds of nature are waiting for you at Can Gio Mangrove Forest. It's located just 45 kilometres away, so you don't have to be stuck on the road all day. Tri An Dam, 35 kilometres away, is one more recommended choice.

If you can't imagine a holiday without some live sports action, investigate the event schedule at Thong Nhat Stadium. It's likely something will be on while you're in town. You'll find the venue 30 kilometres away in Ho Chi Minh City.

Head 20 kilometres to the northwest and you'll discover Di An. It's popular for some excellent attractions, such as Suoi Tien Amusement Park and the Vietnam Golf and Country Club.

Do a little shopping and visit some attractions in My Tho. This destination is 80 kilometres away and not too far from the Vinh Trang Pagoda, Vinh Long Cathedral and the Dong Tam Snake Farm. That being said, don't forget about the Cao Dai Temple and My Tho Market either.

There's no better way to experience a destination than to literally take a big bite out of it! You're invited to explore Dong Nai by trying some of its most tantalizing food and drink.

If you're perusing a menu, there's a strong chance you'll come across meals featuring mint or shallots. They're just two ingredients which are typically used in the cuisine here.

There's always a local meal or two that you need to experience, and during your time in Tam An, gỏi cuốn (spring rolls) is among them. Bánh chưng (banana leaf-wrapped rice cake) is another well-loved dish that's an essential experience for food lovers.

You can never have too much dessert on holiday, so why not get stuck into a little bánh căn (quail egg pancakes)? It's worth every magnificent calorie!

Don't let any cultural barriers put you off! Make your adventure to Dong Nai a more satisfying one by putting in the effort to learn a couple of expressions in the local tongue. Try to get your mouth around 'Chúc sức khoẻ!'. It translates to 'cheers/good health!'. 'Cái này giá bao nhiêu?', which means 'how much is this?', is also quite common.

You can expect an air of fever and excitement leading up to the 2nd of September. The locals will be getting themselves ready for Independence Day, a day of nation-wide celebrations.

With just a little bit of your holiday allowance remaining in your wallet and some incredible memories that will last your whole life, say one last "Xem bạn sau" to Tam An.

Seemingly endless security checkpoints, delayed flights and lost baggage. Airports can be exhausting. Give yourself enough time to head to Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN). Located 30 kilometres to the west, it's the nearest terminal.

As a quick stay prior to a very early morning flight, it works perfectly. Situated just outside the airport entrance, it is extremely convenient with excellent airport shuttle service. The check in staff was extremely helpful. For more than a 12-24 hour stay, I cannot recommend it.
