The Othon Palace is perhaps the best value luxury in Copacabana. The hotel is located on Atlantic Ave directly across from the beach yet strikes a balance between catering to all travelers with top spa services, steam sauna, rooftop infinity pool, restaurant and bar --while also providing a convenient and fulfilling buffet breakfast everyday. The hotel staff really go above and beyond to make staying here a special experience. The sushi restaurant and bar at the ground floor is also superb.

Staff was polite and attentive. My mom's high blood pressure was a little high one night, and they asked about her everyt night, and insisted on checking her blood pressure again. The bar Wave, across the street, should improve the mechanism to make sure ONLY hotel guests are admitted as advertised. A couple of housekeeping ladies asked for tips, but the Front Desk gathered all the information to address the issue.

Room was a bit dated and needed modernization. But overall I really enjoyed this hotel, I upgraded to a junior suite and the view of Copacabana beach is phenomenal. Staff at lobby bar were really good and helped us to watch the football on the tv at the bar. Overall great stay and would definitely recommend.

Terrible customer service, checking takes too long. Had an issue with the room AC leaking and front desk employees gave me the run around. Breakfast buffet area too small to accommodate large amounts of guests, no enough sitting areas. Bathroom shower had mold on both inside and outside wall.

Hotel overall appears to be dirty and run down. Buffet breakfast location is too small for the hotel capacity. Stayed for 6 nights, room AC started leaking my husband went to the reception since no one was picking up the phone. He was advised that maintenance will be sent to the room to check out the AC and water leak, waited over an hour and a half and no one showed up. Retuned to the reception and staff at front desk indicated she couldn’t be of assistance that she was only a reception employee. Bathroom had mold on the walls and was not properly maintained. Pool bathroom smelled like a wet dirty diaper had exploded in there. This hotel is selling you just a view, safe yourself a headache and find other accommodation while in Rio.

We go to the hotel, somehow the lady at the check in took forever to check us in and didn’t say a word. The people next to us arrived later and was checked in way before and the guy gave them a ton of info. She gave sus the literally worst room, with a weird smell and everything. After complaining to the other guy, he was nice enough to change the room. At this point it was already midnight. When getting ready to finally sleep, while washing my face, I turned on the mirror and almost got myself unalived due to the electric shock, the thing exploded. Finally someone at customer service in the hotel contacted me and sent someone to fix some of the things. The location is great, the rooms are a disgrace. The pool is very nice but with such limited space and the beach is also with limited space and you need to rent your own chair/umbrella.

I visit Rio 2x year for the last 30 years. I always stay at the Rio Othon Palace and received VIP upgrades but for the last several years I have not received VIP upgrades. I don't know if the hotel no longer offers it or if Expedia has this erroneously advertised. Check in used to be on the 22nd floor but not any longer. Great hotel otherwise.
