Holidays in Pogo-ri

Been burning the candle at both ends? Desperate for a break and a few early nights? Pogo-ri might just be the answer. It's set among the beaches, coastal plains, forests and rivers of South Chungcheong — nice and off the well-worn tourist trail. (We bet you'll feel so relaxed, you'll be under the blankets by sunset!)

It's situated 70 kilometres south of Seoul, the capital of South Korea.

Does a seaside picnic sound like something you'd be into? Enjoy a day at Wangsan Beach or Eulwangri Beach.

You don't need to be stuck in a car all day to soak up some nature. Just 11 kilometres out of Pogo-ri, Yeonginsan Natural Forest is a superb place to fill your lungs with fresh air. More scenic surrounds await at Ansan Reed Marsh Park, 40 kilometres away.

Remember to pack some blue and red clothes so you can cheer on the soccer team, the Suwon FC, at Suwon Civil Stadium. Located 40 kilometres away in Suwon, the venue is also home to the Suwon FMC WFC.

Drink in the views from the chairlift at Bearstown Ski Resort as you work out your next run. Along with Jisan Forest Ski Resort, this snow-covered wonderland offers some of the best skiing in the region.

Searching for even more awesome attractions? Go to Pyeongtaek, 10 kilometres north of Pogo-ri, for the Seobu Culture & Art Center and Gangsan Bowling Center. Alternatively, Asan is 13 kilometres to the south, and it's here you'll find Maeng Sa-seong House and the Onyang Folk Museum.

You may have the urge to set up base in Cheongju for a while. This place is 55 kilometres to the southeast and not far from the Chungbuk National University, the Heungdeok Temple Site and the Cheongju National Museum. Some other nearby sights are the Cheongju Early Printing Museum and Jikji Pavillion.

Getting out and experiencing the region doesn't get much better when your choices include activities like mountain climbing and hiking.

Making it to your plane on time can be a bit of a trial. That said, you'll be right if you've made a plan. The closest terminal, Cheongju International Airport (CJJ), is 50 kilometres to the southeast.
