Dean and Paul were exceptional hosts, and within minutes after our arrival it felt like we were visiting with old friends. It truly was one of the warmest and friendliest environments I have ever experienced at a boutique hotel. Paul’s skills as a chef were amazing, as well! The breakfasts were superb and the lone dinner eaten at the hotel was also memorably delicious. Clean rooms, super staff and a great location for exploring central Scotland, the Birchwood Pitlochry checks all these boxes multiple times! I will stay here again!!!

Lovely views. Food gorgeous . Spa area disappointing. Pool area small and dull, not great lighting . The steam room was totally dark, no lights working! Area where steam room and sauna was was freezing. Odd area with two couches in a very large room. This would be lovely with lots of comfy seating, cushions, nice lighting so it could be used to relax in, read in, etc. Such a waste of space. However, I had the best massage that I’ve ever had…and I’ve had a lot!…from Megan. On our second day , we went for a walk into Pitlochry after breakfast then I wanted to sit in the lounge area of the hotel and read my book for the rest of the morning, early afternoon. The lounge are was closed until 2.30pm! How weird. The only place to sit was in the restaurant. Not at all what I would expect from a 5 star hotel to not have a comfy seating area open at all times. Another thing I have definitely never had to do in a 5 star hotel is pay for a latte our cappuccino at breakfast. Even at 4 star or a recent B and B we stayed at, this was included in the hot drink choice at breakfast. All in all we enjoyed our trip but won’t be back as have stayed in other spa hotels that have a much better spa…Stobo and Roxburghe Schloss to name two.
