New Orleans is home to so many great traditions: Mardi Gras. Voodoo. Gumbo. Girls Gone Wild. The list just goes on and on. A life spent travelling is worth squadoosh if one of the stops doesn’t include “Nawlins”. Where is New Orleans, anyway? It’s in Louisiana on the banks of the Mississippi Delta. Check out some of our fantastic New Orleans holiday deals and you’ll probs want to go there now.
We hope you’ve got plenty of annual leave to spend on your New Orleans holiday, because there’s so much to do here. Let’s start off easy with a visit to the House of Dance & Feathers, a backyard museum dedicated to preserving and celebrating the Mardi Gras tradition. It’s run by an eccentric local fellow by the name of Ronald W. Lewis, and to say that he and the museum will blow your mind is a bit of an understatement.
After the House of Dance & Feathers, keep it weird with a trip to the New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum. OK, this may get a little creepy, but who doesn’t like to be spooked every now and then? This place will teach you the history, legends and traditions of voodoo in NOLA. They even offer haunted cemetery walking tours through downtown if you feel like getting close to some spirits. If you think you feel a pinprick on your body, don’t worry it’s just someone casting a spell on you. Rest easy—curses don’t come with New Orleans holiday packages.
We suggest checking out what’s going on down Magazine Street. It’s not those door-to-door sales people trying to get you on a 10-year subscription, but rather an array of shops selling everything from expensive clothing and knock-off jewellery to fabulous art pieces and collectable antiques. Maybe you’re looking for a more traditional mall setting? If that’s the case, grab one of our great New Orleans car hire deals and drive over to The Esplanade in Kenner, where department stores reign supreme.
We know you’ve been smelling delicious aromas wafting through the air. Follow your nose to the French Quarter and then bury it in a big bowl of jambalaya. Most places will claim to have the best in the city, but you’ll have to decide for yourself. If you’re a sandwich type of person, there’s nothing wrong with taking down a gigantic shrimp po’boy. Wait! We almost forgot to tell you about the gumbo. Oh, man, the gumbo! You know what? No matter what you eat on New Orleans holidays, it’ll be amazing.
The shopping and eating were all fine and dandy, but we know what you really came here for. Bourbon Street and its bead necklaces. Or maybe what you get to see after you throw said bead necklace. Your head may start to spin as it goes back forth between all the bars and clubs lining this famed party avenue. You’re going to definitely want to make a stop at Jean Lafitte’s Old Absinthe House, where the famed buccaneer used to kick off his boots and sit a spell. Nowadays it’s just a classic cocktail bar serving up a house specialty called “The Absinthe House Frappe”. We don’t know what’s in it, but who cares, it’s absolutely delicious.
Byenveni nan New Orleans! You’ll hear that time and time again during your stay in “The Big Easy”. Check out our best selections for New Orleans packages and bundle hotels and flights for great deals. People may question what you’re thinking when you book a last-minute holiday in Louisiana, but we know you’ll have the last laugh.
