Hotels In Huonville
Is scenic Tasmania calling your name? Then why not spend some time in the main hub of the Huon Valley Region, surrounded by mountains and natural wilderness? Our Huonville hotels are perfectly located so that you can soak up the town's charming atmosphere and check out the best attractions.
HistoryThe Huon River runs right through the centre of town and when Admiral Bruny D'Entrecasteaux discovered it in 1792 he named it after his second-in-command, Captain Huon de Kermadec. In the past, Huonville's main industries were timber and hops but now it's best-known for its apples and stone fruit. Yum!
Things to doLook out towards the horizon and you'll see Trestle Mountain and Collins Bonnet, which together look like a sleeping woman and are therefore collectively referred to as "Sleeping Beauty". So, take a photo of her before going on a hike up to the summit of Trestle Mountain. Make sure you wear some sturdy shoes though, as this track takes a few hours to complete.
Get yourself a set of wheels to embark on the Huon Trail and explore Bruny Island. There's a national park, beaches, seals and dolphins to see, as well as plenty of oysters to gobble up.
Feeling a bit chilly? Warm up in the Thermal Springs at Hastings Caves and make sure you take a walk through Newdegate Cave, Australia's biggest tourist cave.
Shopping and DiningWilmot Road is the main shopping and dining precinct in town, with everything from second-hand bookshops to cosy cafes, so browse to your heart's content and fill up on some of the local fare.
Speaking of local produce, you've heard of Tasmania being referred to as the "Apple Isle", right? Well, about half of Tassie's apples are grown here in Huonville plus it's well-known for its stone fruits and pears, so chomp your way through as much fruit as you can while you're here. But if you prefer your fruit fermented, you're in luck. The Huon Valley is home to heaps of vineyards and cellar doors, so get yourself on a wine tour and start sampling!
Getting here and aroundHuonville is less than 40km from Hobart, so snap up a seat on one of these cheap flights to Hobart and then get around by hire car.
So what are you waiting for? Book your Huonville accommodation today and munch your way through Tasmania's apple country!
