Holidays in Doi Lan
It's simple — a life full of surprises and adventure is a life well-lived. So dig out your passport, pack your gear and say hello to Doi Lan!
The well-known city of Chiang Mai Province is within reach of Doi Lan. You will find this major centre 140 kilometres to the southwest.
Just 25 kilometres away, you'll find plenty to check out in Chiang Rai. From the Wat Phra Kaew to the Wat Pra Singh, there's something for everyone.
Head further afield of Doi Lan and you'll encounter some wonderful natural sights. Just 40 kilometres away, Pongphrabath Waterfall is an excellent spot to fill your lungs with fresh air. We also suggest Mae Fah Luang Art & Culture Park, 30 kilometres away from Doi Lan.
If you have enough time, why not head to some nearby destinations? Wiang Chai and Phan are 20 kilometres and 20 kilometres away, respectively.
Roughly 60 kilometres to the south, Phayao is a destination with lots to offer. Health Garden Park, the Wat Sri Khom Kham Temple and the Wat Phra That Jom Thong are all quite close. Keep in mind, the Wat Li and the Pho Khun Ngam Mueang Memorial are also worthwhile.
'There is no love sincerer than the love of food,' George Bernard Shaw once wrote, but throw travel into the mix and it's a match made in heaven. You're invited to indulge in your two loves by eating and drinking your way through Chiang Rai Province.
Do you enjoy vietnamese coriander? How about culantro? Whether you're wild about them or not, they are two essential ingredients often found in the cuisine here.
No true food lover would visit Doi Lan without experiencing one or two of the classic dishes, such as khao kan chin (steamed pork blood and rice) and khanom chin nam ngiao (rice with pork blood sauce).
Travelling is much more than just seeing the sights and trying out the local cuisine. It's also about experiencing the people and their culture. Get the most out of your Chiang Rai Province escape by learning a couple of expressions in the local tongue. You'll be glad you learnt 'Kŏr tôht', which is how you say 'excuse me'. Perhaps you'll find 'Mâi khâo jai' is a bit easier to roll off the tongue? This means 'I don't understand'.
What better way to learn about a place than by getting swept up in a day of national celebration? There'll be many festivities occurring for Birthday of King Phumiphon on the 5th of December.
Like all good things, your trip to Doi Lan must eventually come to an end. When it's finally time to leave, say one last "Læ̂w phb kạn h̄ım̀" and spend your leftover holiday allowance on some special souvenirs.
When it's time to pack up your bag and head home, the nearest terminal, Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX), is 140 kilometres to the southwest.

The Riverie by Katathani
The hotel isn't bad, but it's very old, especially the rooms, and the bed is very hard, it feels like wood. The breakfast is very poor, but for what it costs, it's not bad at all

The Heritage Chiang Rai Hotel and Convention
Very clean hotel and comfortable beds in the rooms. Staff is friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good with a fair amount of selection. Easy to get into town (using Grab or Van or car/cycle). I would give it a 4.4 rating and would stay there again.
