Staying here since it opened…but never again.

The woman at the front desk was less than thrilled to check me in and was not even at the desk for checkout. The lobby smelled like sewage and the restaurant below our room played house music till 2:30am. The room next to mine had guests screaming and fighting non-stop going in and out of there room with no one from the hotel intervening. Also the pillows are horrible and the bathroom’s exhaust fan was filthy.

Value proposition somewhat poor

It’s a nice boutique hotel but If you are sensitive to scents, they use a very heavily fragrant cleanser/ deodorizer. Later into the evening a sulfurous, sewer gas smell pervaded the hotel. It’s unpleasant and maybe explains the excessive fragrance. For 200+ dollar per night in exurban Chicago this is not acceptable.

I enjoyed the hotel while I was there. I prepaid for everything and did not charge anything to my room. However, two events tarnished the experience for me. 1. I went to the lobby restaurant one evening and wanted to sit by the bar for a drink and light faire. There were 3 people at the host station talking to each other and did not acknowledge me. One waiter came up and I asked if it was ok to just sit and have a drink at the bar and he said that he did not know and I should ask one of the people conversing amongst themselves. I left and went to the Grill across the street. 2. I had a strange, $20 pending charge on my bill after I left. I thought that it would fall off like the hold but, then, it turned into a charge. When I called, the manager said that I was charged $20 for a stained pillow case that they thought was stained with makeup. What? I have never heard of a hotel charging for that.

Quiet and clean

The hotel was very quiet, unsurprisingly for our early January stay. We were 3 in our room, with one sleeping on a rollerway bed provided by the hotel. The rollerway was too uncomfortable to use, and so we made our own arrangements, borrowing an air mattress from a relative. The room was clean, as were all the hotel communal areas. Breakfast was a little sparse, with minimal choices available, although the food was refreshed routinely. We were sorry that the restaurant and bar were closed. Prior to our stay I had called the hotel to confirm a rollerway would be available. I was told it was, at a one-off cost of $20. On checking out I was told the cost of the rollerway was $25 a night. I wish I’d known the nightly rate, as I would have returned the rollerway after our first night. It wasn’t used again
