No matter what sort of adventures you want to have, this Lisbon District 'hood has plenty going for it. One of the best bits of travelling is the people you meet on the way. And with 500,000 people living in the capital of Portugal, there's loads of opportunities to gain some new BFFs. Carcavelos is 17 kilometres west of the city centre. If you're coming in from Humberto Delgado Airport, toss your luggage in the back of a taxi and head 20 kilometres southwest.

Carcavelos is heaven for sightseers. A range of the city's attractions are sprinkled near this fascinating neighbourhood, including Queluz National Palace and the Estoril Casino. You should also be sure to pay a visit to Cascais Beach and Oeiras Parque. For a different perspective on Lisbon District, head to Parede and Sao Domingos de Rana, nearby neighbourhoods just waiting to be explored.

No visit to Lisbon District would be complete without stopping at Castle of Sao Jorge. As far as must‐visit attractions go, it's up there with the best. You'll find it just 0.4 kilometres from the centre of the city.
