It lies 340 kilometres northwest of Madrid, the capital of Spain.

Plan a day to enjoy Playa fluvial, 9 kilometres to the west.

There is a variety of natural sights close to Xares. Why not travel 40 kilometres to Montesinho Natural Park? Alternatively, explore some of nature's best work at Sanabria Lake Natural Park, 20 kilometres away.

There's nothing better than a day spent zipping down the velvety slopes at Manzaneda Ski Area. Grab a trail map and see how much of the resort you can tackle!

Take the opportunity to go to other nearby sights, such as Iglesia Santa Maria da Cabeza and Iglesia San Pedro. You'll come across them 17 kilometres south in Pías. Don't want to give back the hire car just yet? Nuestra Senora de las Ermitas Sanctuary and Montefurado Roman Tunnel are in Petín, 19 kilometres to the northwest of Xares.

Ermita de San Cayetano, Castle of the Counts of Benavente and Azogue Church are all close to Robleda-Cervantes, 35 kilometres to the southeast. Need some more reasons to call in? Plaza Mayor and Casa del Parque I "Lago de Sanabria y alrededores" are not far away either.
