It's located 3,700 kilometres to the west of the nation's capital, Washington.

Break out on an adventure to some nearby natural beauty spots. 50 kilometres out of Welches, End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center is all yours to explore. Multnomah Falls, 30 kilometres away, is another fabulous spot to find some peace and quiet.

Watch out for bargains or do some souvenir shopping at Mountain Sports.

The Courses at Resort at the Mountain is a hotspot for golf enthusiasts. Join the fun with a couple of games before unwinding with a refreshing drink at the 19th hole.

The snow-covered mountains of Mount Hood Meadows and Summit Ski Area lure big numbers of powder hounds. Rent some ski gear and carve up the slopes.

Government Camp, 17 kilometres to the east, is the home of Mount Hood National Forest and Timberline Lodge Ski Area. Why not make your way there and stop by these popular attractions? Or, head to Mount Hood, 25 kilometres to the east of Welches, for Cooper Spur Ski Area and Magic Mile Chairlift.

You may feel the urge to book a hotel room in Bridal Veil for a bit. This destination is 30 kilometres to the northwest and close to Oneonta Gorge, Wahkeena Falls and Horsetail Falls. A few other nearby sights are Benson State Recreation Area and Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.

When the time comes to rediscover your inner adventurer, sign yourself up for some mountain biking. That said, there aren't many better ways to discover the landscapes of this region than with a little rock climbing.
