I’m leaving 2 stars for the courteous staff and the convenient location.
When I booked this hotel through Expedia, I must’ve inadvertently selected a smoking room. At check-in, I was informed that no non-smoking rooms were available. The moment I stepped out of the elevator, I was hit with an overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke. My assigned room was so unpleasant that I immediately turned the air purifier on at maximum and left the front door open to ventilate it, since the window could not be opened even slightly. For context, I am a former smoker and have never reacted this strongly to tobacco odor before.
After about five minutes, it became difficult to remain inside and breathe comfortably. I called the front desk to ask whether any alternative room was available. I explained that booking a smoking room had been my mistake and apologized for the inconvenience. I was told again that no non-smoking rooms were available, but they did show me another smoking room that had been “smoke treated.” Although the smell was somewhat reduced, it was still too strong for me to tolerate, and I began to feel physically nauseous.
I returned to the reception desk and explained that I would need to check out because I could not imagine staying the night under those conditions. The staff apologized, but could not offer a suitable solution nor refund.
