The perfect hotel in the perfect location

Our first trip to Stirling and The Stirling Highland Hotel was the perfect hotel for the trip. A beautiful building with friendly helpful staff located in the centre of Stirling. So we were able to park the car for two days and walk everywhere. The only time we drove was up to the Wallace Monument.

The building is old, definitely incredible to stay in an historical building. My only complaint and disappointment was the bathroom. The bathrooms really need some updating because the paint is peeling and there were spots of mold in our bathroom. Our first day we had hot water, but not the rest of our stay. The restaurant was great. We had a party of 6 for dinner and everyone really enjoyed their meals. Great job chiefs! Bartenders need more experience, but they were all so kind and willing to help with our questions.

We loved the proximity to places in Stirling and the proximity for day trips. The only reason I gave a 4 for cleanliness was because some shifts of housekeeping are a bit lazy and chose to refold and hang used towels rather than replace them, coffee wasn't always replenished, and sheets after a week were not changed unless we specifically asked. We stayed two weeks. I would absolutely stay here again, I just know to stay on top of housekeeping. They have a restaurant and bar at the hotel which was great, and there were others within walking distance. Nice leisure space with pool and sauna. Front desk staff very friendly and helpful.

Worst 5star hotel we have stayed in a long time. Not worth $ 250 plus $ 60 parking and breakfast …. small old and smelly rooms. Very aged and not well maintained. Bad ventilation and faulty cheap fan. Had to change room and fan twice. Breakfast was hearty ok, but area was badly ventilated and hot.
€10 noisy plastic fan “cooling” the room
15 year old TV
old too big and ugly table filling half the room
plaster falling off the wall

AVOID at all costs! I have been to some of the best and luxurious 5* hotels in the world This is sooo faraway from being a 4*, in fact a stable is much better; also the treatment from both Expedia and the management at the hotel simply disgusting and so unprofessional! Ok selling bedroom but they need to do it in accordance with the relevant stars not just selling something that it is not as described especially when 1 night has costed us a ludicrous price Shame on you this is criminal because you are selling something that it is not real! The bedroom had terrible sewerage smell, badly damaged furniture all of them, sinking mattress, no remote control for the tv, the landline telephone disconnected and ask the manager to come snd check the conditions I had to go several times at reception because thry don’t answer at the telephone. There were pillowcases and towel left behind from previous occupancy and other people hair everywhere, they call shower the head of the shower which is above a bath😂 we had to leave about 2 hours after we were given the bedroom and neither expedia or the hotel manager were accountable and willing to return our money Simply disgusting Please avoid

The building looks amazing. And the front desk staff is friendly and very welcoming. But the rooms are very shabby. Felt dirty and needed a good clean. Bed was very hard and was not fresh. Ended up checking out and not staying the night.

This hotel is in a good location, close to the Stirling Castle and various restaurants and pubs. This property needs an upgrade. Our room had broken closet doors that didn’t get properly fixed. The entire hotel needs a redo.

Nice hotel, but car park was paid during stay.

Nice old hotel, in city centre excellent food, friendly staff. Only disappointment was, I got confirmation e-mail after booking stating car parking will be charged because accommodation was booked through third party. Simply moving goal posts after booking is completed and paid.

Beautiful hotel. Typically weird UK bathroom.

Beautiful property. Lovely, clean room. Comfortable bed. Shower functioned well once we mastered the mysterious electronic controls for water flow and temperature. I gave up after twisting and turning every which thing. Hubby finally found the secret. I still hate the weird elevated bathtub shower where you have to climb in and out risking life and limb. And that half door on the shower is insane. It lets water fall all over the floor. And also feels unsafe because it moves while you are up there balancing in the elevated slippery tub. I would pay to get a proper walk-in shower at floor level. With a proper enclosure. And simple straightforward controls. Also can you put up some towel racks. Cause that towel warmer is the pits. The installation is ugly and worrisome with electric wires and tubing showing. And it’s the only place to put wet towels. But they have to be jammed in so tight they never dry. It’s a nice idea that fails in execution. Otherwise your hotel was so nice!!! We could never get dinner in your restaurant because we never booked early enough. Seems to be another weird UK thing we don’t have in US. Book early or you are turned away on principal. No walk-ins ever allowed!!! All-in-all your hotel is the nicest we have stayed at in three weeks. A few upgrades would move you into this century and we would love to come back.

Staff were great and helpful. Good location as well. everything was great. The only issue we had was trying to use the gym and the spa facilities. I think maybe there is memberships for locals who seem to think that its their own personal gym and spa and hotel guests are not welcome. As well as the personal trainer in the gym that looked most disgusted when we tried to use the equipment. He started claiming bits of equipment so we weren't able to use them. If you need a nice comfortable stay in a good location this is the place for you. but I wouldn't bother trying to use the facilities your not welcome.

I would have given this place 2 stars because of the location near the castle... until I discovered that if you stayed at the bottom, you could drive all the way to the very top and pay to park there. Plus, there are very few places to eat near the top. I had been really looking forward to our stay here. However, disappointment began on the way in: You have to pass through the blue cloud of the smoking area immediately outside the door to gain access to the main entrance. Once checked in - Chloe (I think that was her name) was lovely - we discovered that the lift only goes to the basement, ground floor and 3rd floor. We were on the 2nd and so had to drag our luggage up 2 long flights of stairs. There was no bell boy. We had booked one of the Premier Suites. There was only one hand towel and no face cloth (policy) and only one small glass bottle of water (also policy); for two adults. The towels were old and frayed, and so stiff/rough they had no absorbency. The bed sheets were old, discolored and nubbly. The breakfast is self-serve buffet: no fresh fruit for two days; no plain yogurt - "the delivery was late", for 2 days? When trays of hot food were empty, nobody replenished them unless asked. One small carafe of water for the whole room. The seal on the toilet was gone and toilet water was coming up through the floorboards. Black mold!! We asked for a room change. They protested the refund of the price difference. The front desk mgr, Scott, was rude and condescending.
