No baseball fan will want to miss a visit to Alliant Energy Field, which is located 40 kilometres away in Clinton. Take a look at the event schedule to see when they're playing. If you miss them, why not catch the stadium's other home team, the Ashford University Baseball Team?

When it comes to skiing, there are some who can slide graciously down any slope. For others, merely staying on two feet is tough enough. Regardless of your abilities, you're bound to love the fluffy snow at Ski Snowstar Winter Sports Park.

We suggest hopping in the car and going to Woosung. It's some 17 kilometres to the northeast and the home of the Lincoln Statue and Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home.

Whether it's for shopping or to explore the sights, locals and travellers alike often make their way over to Freeport, 55 kilometres to the north. The Silver Creek Museum, the Park Hills Golf Course and the Winneshiek Playhouse are close by. That being said, you wouldn't want to pass up the Freeport Art Museum and Krape Park either.

If you're after something a bit more adventurous, take a look at the region's mountain biking options. Or perhaps rock climbing is more your thing? Whichever you choose, you're guaranteed to have a fantastic time.

If you're flying back, it's probably wise to map out a route to the terminal before leaving. From the middle of Sterling, you'll need to go some 65 kilometres northeast to Greater Rockford Airport (RFD), the nearest airport.
