If you have your sights set on visiting Shukunegi, bear this in mind — accommodation options in the vicinity are as few and far between as the hair on your great uncle Frank's head!

However, there's no need to lose your mind. Izumozaki-machi is around 50 kilometres away and boasts some great hotels, including the Hotel Route-Inn Nagaoka Inter and Hotel Route-Inn Nagaoka Ekimae.

Everyone knows Aussies are pretty laid back, so consider kicking back a little longer and going to the Honjoji Temple and Sawa House of Shogun in Tsubame, 60 kilometres to the east of Shukunegi. If you'd like to spend a few nights in Tsubame, look into the APA Villa Hotel Tsubamesanjo-Ekimae and APA Hotel Tsubamesanjo-Ekimae. Or, you could consider staying in Niigata, 70 kilometres to the east of Shukunegi, where you'll find the Hotel Route-Inn Niigata-Nishi Inter and Chisun Inn Niigata Chuo Inter. The Jotokuji Temple and Tokimeki Bandaijima Ramen Village are just some of the most popular attractions to check out when visiting Niigata.

Our stay at Hotel Oosado was outstanding. From arrival to departure the hotel staff was helpful, friendly, courteous and professional. Our suite was clean, large and well appointed with all the modern amenities one could want in a 5-star hotel. The ocean view from our balcony was beautiful and breathtaking. The breakfast buffet had a great variety of Japanese and western style dishes. Our dinner kaiseiki was outstanding in taste and presentation that highlighted all the great seafood and vegetables from around Sado Island. We enjoyed our stay and was sad to leave such a wonderful place. We would definitely stay at Hotel Oosado on our next visit to Sado Island and would not hesitate to recommend this location to anyone.
