Swinging by Aurora, 30 kilometres north, is on the list of many travellers. There's loads to keep you busy here, including the Aurora University and Chicago Premium Outlets.

Keep your eyes peeled for shiny shells to add to your collection or try to spot creatures like crabs and sea stars at North Avenue Beach and Montrose Beach. You'll find these appealing strips of coastline 65 kilometres and 70 kilometres away, respectively.

Explore beyond Shorewood and be prepared to experience some wonderful natural sights. Just 40 kilometres away, Kankakee River State Park is a great place to spend some time in the fresh air. Another sugggestion is William G. Stratton State Park, 25 kilometres away from Shorewood.

Enjoy the exhilaration of attending a live baseball match at Silver Cross Field, home to the Joliet Slammers. After you've clapped and roared along with their passionate fans, why not enjoy a drink with a few of them somewhere nearby? To get to the stadium, head 12 kilometres east to Joliet.

Once you've grabbed a trail map and pass at Raging Buffalo Snowboard Ski Park, you won't want to waste a moment making your way to the top of the slope! You may also like to jump on the chairlift and conquer the runs at Four Lakes Alpine Snowsports.

If you're thinking about expanding your horizons, go 10 kilometres east to Joliet. This is where you'll find the Rialto Square Theater and the Joliet Junior College. We also suggest trying out Channahon, 11 kilometres to the south, for the Empress River Casino and the Hollywood Casino Joliet.

Want to go and see the Batavia Depot Museum, the Red Oak Nature Center and the Water Street Studios Gallery? They're all not far from Batavia, 35 kilometres away. Funway Ultimate Entertainment Center and Fabyan Villa Museum & Japanese Garden are also close by and should be on your itinerary.

With some planning, getting to Midway International Airport (MDW), the nearest airport, shouldn't be too hard. It's about 50 kilometres to the northeast of the centre of Shorewood.
