Holidays in Samyu-ri

Been up 'til dawn way too often lately? Dying for a break and a few early nights? Samyu-ri might just be the ticket. It's set among the coastal plains, forests and rivers of North Jeolla — nice and not too touristy. (We reckon you'll feel so relaxed, you'll be under the covers by sunset!)

It's 190 kilometres to the south of Seoul, South Korea's capital city.

You don't need to be stuck on the highway all day to see some nature around these parts. Just 45 kilometres out of Samyu-ri, Gayasan National Park is a superb place to enjoy some fresh air. Even more tranquil surrounds await at Deogyu-san National Park, 13 kilometres away.

Whether you're a baseball enthusiast or you just want to lose yourself in the gripping atmosphere, you'll want to go to a live game at Hanbat Stadium, the home ground of the Hanwha Eagles. You'll find the venue 50 kilometres away in Daejeon.

There's even more just around the corner. Muju, 10 kilometres to the east, is popular for Deogyusan Resort and the Anguksa Temple. Though, if the Tapsa Temple and Maisan Provincial Park are more appealing, go 20 kilometres southwest from Samyu-ri to Jinan.

Do a little shopping and visit some sights in Jeonju. This place is 45 kilometres to the west and quite close to the Gyeonggijeon, the Jeonju Historical Museum and the Jeonju National Museum. That said, you shouldn't forget about the Pungnammun Gate and Jeondong Catholic Church either.

When the time comes to rediscover the adventurer within, get involved in some tobogganing. That said, there aren't many better ways to see the landscapes of this region than with a bit of mountain climbing.

Snowboarding and skiing are two of your best options if you're after some exhilarating activities to do in the winter. Just don't forget to pack your warmest gear as the temperature can really dip!

Like to know where the closest airport is? Well, it's called Gunsan Airport (KUV) and you can find it 90 kilometres to the west.
