Holidays in Saidia

City life driving you nuts? Reckon a change of scenery would sort you out? Then whisk yourself away to Saidia and chillax among the stunning beaches and desert landscapes of Mediterranean Coast.

It's located 440 kilometres east of Rabat, the nation's capital.

Spend a couple of hours strolling along the shoreline at Saidia Beach or Playa de la Hipica.

Sports followers won't be left out in the cold during their stay. Berkane Municipal Stadium is 16 kilometres away in Berkane and an excellent place to get your sporting fix. Make sure you check the event schedule to find out what's on.

Head 9 kilometres to the southwest and you'll come across Madagh. It's known for some fantastic attractions, such as Eglise Sainte Agnes and Parc des cigognes blanches.

Go on a day trip and see some sights in Melilla. This destination is 65 kilometres away and close to Puerto Deportivo Noray, Puerta de la Marina and Las Penuelas Cisterns. Of course, you shouldn't forget about Statue Grande Libre and Hernandez Park either.

Sure, we admit there's a certain charm to getting lost in an unfamiliar place, but every now and then it's nice to get to your destination on the first go. To avoid any difficulties along the way, get involved in some city walking tours and culinary tours.

For those who want to get outdoors and get wet, why not dive in and try one or two watersports like swimming or boating? All you need is some sun protection and an adventurous spirit.

Check out what's going on at the region's art galleries and craft workshops. There are a few to select from, so it's a good idea to do your research!

If the weather looks good, head out to explore the surrounding area's open-air markets.

If history fascinates you, take the time to wander around the local old towns, fortresses and historic palaces. Do a little research beforehand or enlist the services of the closest tour guide.

Familiarise yourself with the area in a more spiritual way by organising an outing to its mosques. Take a minute or two for some quiet contemplation or simply observe the locals in prayer.

Whether you enjoy the stylishness of Michelin stars or wolfing down a snack from a street cart, sampling the local food and drink is one of the best things about travel. So why not tantalise your taste buds by digging into some of the region's delectable offerings?

An ingredient often found in the food here is cumin. One more is aniseed. Give them a try if they're not a part of your food repertoire already.

Don't miss the chance to dig into a plate of merguez (lamb sausage) or brochettes (kebabs). These traditional meals come highly recommended by the locals.

'Stressed' spelled backwards is 'desserts', and we don't believe in coincidences. There's no more delicious way to wave goodbye to your worries than with ma’amoul (shortbread nut pastry), a treat often found on dining tables here.

It can be tough to separate the wheat from the chaff when it comes to quality beers, but one brew worth tasting is Spéciale Flag. Grab a pint and bottoms up!

Not much is nicer than a glass of wine with dinner. Here, alicante and grenache are what the vino savants usually order.

When your trip is at an end and it's time to say goodbye, don't leave your last Moroccan dirhams jingling around in your purse. Why not buy some postcards as a reminder of this magnificent region?

Malaga Airport (AGP) is the nearest terminal, 270 kilometres to the northwest. Ensure you have plenty of time to reach it.

Pleasant experience
"My stay at the hotel was good. The food was varied and tasty and the staff was helpful and friendly. However, the hotel needs more fixing in the rooms and outside. In my room, for example, there was a water leak in the toilet and the landline did not work."
