Holidays in Ruby Bay
Relaxation. Adventure. Relaxation. Adventure. Off to Ruby Bay but can't make up your mind what kinda getaway you want? Don't get in a fluster! We'll help sort it out.
It sits 140 kilometres to the west of Wellington, the capital of New Zealand.
Don't forget to bring a hamper of food and refreshing drinks so you can indulge in lunch on the coastline at Wharariki Beach or Kaiteriteri Beach.
You'll discover a number of nice natural attractions surrounding Ruby Bay. Why not head 50 kilometres to Te Waikoropupu Springs? Alternatively, soak up the sights and sounds of Mount Richmond, 40 kilometres away.
If you can't imagine a holiday that doesn't involve sports, check what events are scheduled at Trafalgar Park. It's likely something will be on while you're in town. You'll find the venue 17 kilometres away in Nelson.
You'll find even more just around the corner. Mapua, 3 kilometres to the south, is known for the Hoglund Art Glass and the Kahurangi Estate. Alternatively, if the Neudorf and the Seifried Estate Winery sound better to you, travel 5 kilometres south from Ruby Bay to Bronte.
You may get the urge to book a room in Nelson for a little bit. This destination is 17 kilometres away and not too far from Christ Church Cathedral, the Founders Park and Nelson Market. Some other nearby sights are the Queens Gardens and the Nelson Provincial Museum.
Whether you enjoy the opulence of Michelin stars or nibbling on a snack from a street cart, sampling the local food and drink is perhaps the best thing about travel. So why not give your taste buds a treat by tucking into some of the area's scrumptious offerings?
Looking for an introduction to the local food? We recommend getting a taste for seafood and pork, two common ingredients used in many of the dishes here.
While in Ruby Bay, eat like the locals do. That means sitting down to a meal of whitebait or hÄngi (traditional Maori meat and vegetables), a couple of the region's specialty dishes.
Holiday calories don't count, right? So it's a fantastic excuse to treat your sweet tooth to some hokey pokey (honeycomb-vanilla ice cream), a well-liked dessert.
Don't forget to mark the 6th of February in your schedule. To the locals, this means just one thing — Waitangi Day. A significant day of celebrations, this is a great time to be in the country.
With just a little bit of your holiday allowance left, don't forgot to stock up on some postcards of the beautiful Nelson Region region before you head home.
Wellington International Airport (WLG) is the nearest terminal, 140 kilometres to the east. Make sure you have ample time to reach it.
Hotels in Ruby Bay
It'd probably be a good idea to reserve your Ruby Bay hotel well in advance (but let's face it, you can't pre-plan everything in life.) At the moment, there are only 10 places available on lastminute.com.au.If you'd rather spend money on experiences than on a hotel, the Mahana Villa and the Wairepo House are two places you should take a look at. But if you'd rather live like royalty while you're here, the Almyra Waterfront Accommodation or the Atholwood Luxury Country Accommodation might be more to your liking. Just sit back, relax and let the expert staff do what they do best.
