A Taste of Paradise: my eview of the Outrigger Beach Resort in Mauritius From the moment you arrive your eyes are drawn to the breathtaking turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean where the Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort wraps you in pure bliss. The resort sits along one of the island’s most serene stretches of coastline, where the sound of the waves becomes the soundtrack to your stay and every sunrise feels like it was painted just for you. With its lush tropical gardens, wide-open views of the lagoon, and architecture that blends seamlessly with the natural beauty around it, the Outrigger creates an atmosphere that is both luxurious and deeply calming. I can only praise the warm, friendly service and the delicious variety of dining options, from fresh seafood by the beach to beautifully prepared Mauritian dishes that showcase the island’s rich culinary heritage. The resort offers a wide range of activities to suit every mood, from peaceful mornings at the spa to afternoons filled with snorkeling or paddleboarding, and evenings spent enjoying live music under the stars. I stayed as a solo traveller but families also love the vibrant kids’ club, couples adore the romantic beachfront setting, it really is a perfect place to unwind and relax. But what truly elevates the Outrigger experience is the staff. This is a modern and reasonably decorated hotel. However, when we checked in, we were placed in a room that smelt of cigarette smoke. We changed it, but were placed in a room that smelt of damp. That was bad enough, but when we asked for help with the room, the front desk staff promised they would call us back and then did not do so. We asked for help a second time and were again given fake excuses; one member of reception (Nitin) promised to have his management send us a letter under the door or give us a call. No help arrived. It seems the front desk of the hotel operates a policy of lying to desks and hoping they will go away. This is appalling.

An ocean view room was reserved for my parents at the Sugar Beach hotel. They were celebrating their Golden (50th) anniversary. Initially they were given a room that was very far from the reception and required climbing stairs and didn't provide a clear ocean view (something we paid for). Also, they were not provided with drinking water in their rooms. On top of this, their in-room phone did not work. They were eventually moved to a better room on the ground floor, but the staff and service had already scarred the experience at the hotel. Prior to their stay at Sugar Beach, they stayed at the Le Meridien, where the staff, the service, the location were all top notch. The day and night difference between the two hotels made it worse at Sugar Beach. Will not be booking Sugar Beach Hotel again.
