Holidays in Prospect

Had enough of meetings that go on forever? How about that painfully awks water cooler chit-chat? Say buh-bye to work and head to Prospect, a neighbourhood in the state capital, Adelaide. If you like meeting locals while travelling, Adelaide is packed with potential new BFFs. Around 1,200,000 people call this city home. To make your way to Prospect from Adelaide Airport, jump into a taxi and head northeast for 8 kilometres. From the centre of Adelaide, it's 4 kilometres to the north.

This city is bursting with sensational things to do, and many of them are found near Prospect. It's difficult to choose the top sights, but Victoria Square and Government House are a couple you shouldn't miss. After taking a look at those, you're going to want to keep going to Rundle Mall and the Art Gallery of South Australia. While you're here, consider going to some other neighbourhoods to experience more of what Adelaide has to offer. Sefton Park and Medindie are good suggestions that aren't too far away.

Feeling a little restless in Prospect? Get out and explore the Adelaide Festival Centre and Adelaide Central Market, two highlights in the city centre. It'd be a shame to go back to your hotel room without stopping at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens and the National Wine Centre of Australia as well.

On holiday without the kids in tow? The Adelaide Casino, East End Cafe Precinct and the Coopers Brewery deserve to be at the top of your itinerary.

A few interesting cultural sites are waiting. Start off at the Lion Arts Centre, the Carclew Youth Arts Center, the Australian Experimental Art Foundation and the Jam Factory Contemporary Craft & Design Centre.

Nothing quietens the mind and stirs the imagination like time out in an art gallery. Take the chance to reflect as you view the powerful works on display at the Tandanya and the Anne & Gordon Samstag Museum of Art.

You never quite know what you'll come across when walking around the engaging exhibits at the South Australian Museum, the Migration Museum and the Bradman Collection. If you don't want to miss anything, ask the friendly staff for their top picks.

The fairways of the North Adelaide Golf Course and the City of Adelaide Golf Links are calling your name. Work on your putt, challenge some friends to a few rounds and try to knock some strokes off your game.

Sometimes kids can have fun in rather surprising locations. Delight them with trips to Adelaide Aquatic Centre and the State Library of South Australia.

Kids can become disgruntled with being dragged around various tourist sites. Pep them back up with a few hours at one of the local areas action-packed family attractions. Kurrangga Park, the Adelaide Showground and the KartMania & Laser Force Skirmish Centre are some of the most popular choices.

If you're a traveller who loves spending time outdoors, spend some time at the Himeji Gardens and River Torrens Linear Park Trail.

If all the activity of city life is tiring you out, head to one of the nearby local parks. Veale Gardens, Osmond Gardens, Brougham Gardens and Rymill Park are delightful spots to take a relaxing stroll or read a book.

Buy the essential items or look for a few unique souvenirs. You can pick up everything you're after at Brickwork Markets and Gilles Street Market.

Head over for a fun and educational history lesson at Parliament House, the University of Adelaide, City Bridge and the Ayers House Museum. Reading about them in a textbook just doesn't compare!

Local holy places, such as St Peter's Cathedral, Pilgrim Uniting Church, the Buddhist Temple Wat Ratanaprathib Vihara and St Francis Xavier Cathedral, give you the opportunity to reflect in a serene setting.

Don't miss out on a chance to check out the sporting hub of Adelaide Oval. Grab tickets to a live game of Australian rules football (AFL) in your blue, red and yellow and witness home team the Adelaide FC strive for the win. Alternatively, come down and cheer on the Port Adelaide FC or the Adelaide Strikers, a couple of other teams who call this venue home.
