Holidays in Phaya Yen

When you see seriously spectacular landscapes plastered over every TV channel, it's hard not to get jelly. So why not spoil yourself with a holiday in Phaya Yen and experience the picturesque rural landscapes of Nakhon Ratchasima?

It's located 120 kilometres to the northeast of Bangkok, the national capital of Thailand.

The nine-to-five will be a distant memory after spending an afternoon at the PB Valley Khao Yai Winery.

Break free on an adventure to some surrounding natural sights. 20 kilometres out of Phaya Yen, Nam Phut Natural Spring is waiting to be explored. Wang Born Waterfall, 40 kilometres away, is another sensational spot to unwind in the outdoors.

Whether you'd like to learn more about the spiritual side of the region or just sit back and relax in the peaceful atmosphere, the Wat Thep Phithak Punnaram is the place to visit.

We suggest getting in the car and finding your way to Pak Chong. It's some 20 kilometres to the northeast and popular for Thong Somboon Club and the Jungle Golf Club.

Spend a bit of time exploring Wat Phra Si Sanphet, Wat Ratchaburana and Ayutthaya Historical Park. All of these sights are quite close to the middle of Ayutthaya, 80 kilometres to the west. Looking for more? Wat Phra Mahathat and the Wat Chai Wattanaram should also feature on your itinerary.

Planning your own holiday itinerary can be fun, but every now and then it's quite a relief to let someone else take over for a while. Guided nature walks, city walking tours and culinary tours provide a simple way to get to know the region.

It's impossible to say what you'll find inside the region's nature museums and craft workshops, but you can be certain it's going to be intriguing!

Rejuvenate your mind with the help of some fun outdoor attractions. The surrounding area offers visitors a wide variety of open-air markets.

If you're interested in history, take the time to discover the area's traditional villages, old towns and historic palaces. Do a little research before you go or introduce yourself to the nearest tour guide.

Whether or not you believe in a greater power, checking out one of the surrounding temples and shrines is a good opportunity to familiarise yourself with the area's spiritual beliefs.

Would you like to chew, nibble, chomp, gnaw and swig your way across Nakhon Ratchasima? A world of decadent flavours is waiting for you, so slip on your stretchiest slacks and bon appétit!

There's no need to agonise over the restaurant menu when you're in Phaya Yen. Get stuck right in and order the regional specialties, such as khao phat nam phrik long ruea (rice, chili and duck’s eggs) and khao phat nam phrik long ruea (rice, chili and duck’s eggs).

Your time here in the Nakhon Ratchasima region will certainly be more fulfilling if you master a few of the local expressions and greetings. 'Raa-dtree sà-wàt' can be very handy. It translates to 'good night'. Perhaps you'll find 'Mâi khâo jai' is a bit easier to roll off the tongue? It means 'I don't understand'.

Celebrated throughout the entire country, Birthday of King Phumiphon happens each year on the 5th of December. If you're fortunate enough to be here at this time, it'll be difficult not to get swept up in the excitement!

Before you say your final "Laa gòn ná" to Phaya Yen, check to see if you have any remaining change that you can spend on last-minute mementos.

When it's time to fly back home, allow yourself ample time to get to Don Mueang International Airport (DMK). Sitting 100 kilometres to the southwest from the centre of Phaya Yen, this is the nearest terminal.

Very spacious. Great for a family or two couples
We enjoyed our stay at this condo. The 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and three toilets made it very comfortable for my husband and I as well as our older teenage children to stay comfortably. We had a corner condo with a wrap around balcony that was lovely to relax on and look at the beautiful view.

Stayed 3 nights at The Wild in a caravan with dinner. The Wild is situated on one end of Khao Yai which is further to most attractions we went to.
