Historic mansions are a few more places worth whipping out your camera for. Visitors with a serious appetite for adventure can also enjoy a little mountain biking and mountain climbing here.

Looking for more things to do? Kick back and spend the day enjoying the Mangawhai Heads Beach and the Mangawhai Museum. You'll find them in Mangawhai, 30 kilometres to the east of Paparoa. Mangawhai hotels are the Mangawhai Heads Holiday Park and Mangawhai Chalets. Or, you could stay in Matakana, 50 kilometres to the southeast of Paparoa, where you can choose from the Takatu Lodge and Vineyard and Sugarloaf Lodge. The Reptile Park and the Matakana Cinemas are among the more popular attractions to experience while in Matakana.

Unless you're planning to set up camp at Whangarei Airport, it might be wise to book some accommodation before you fly. The Kauri Nest is pretty close by, or you could always travel into Paparoa's centre. It's 40 kilometres away.
