It lies 300 kilometres to the west of Oslo, the capital of Norway.

Visitors will find some wonderful attractions sitting 20 kilometres away in Bergen. We recommend allocating some time to soak up Troldhaugen, the Hanseatic Museum, Grieg Hall and everything else this area has on offer.

Mother Nature's splendour is yours to explore around Os. Just 20 kilometres away, Mt. Floyen is a great place to kick off your sightseeing. The Floibanen Funicular sits 20 kilometres away and is another favourite spot for a bit of downtime.

The Ole Bull Museum will allow you to gain a fresh new point of view on this area and its people.

Join the other passionate fans rooting for the SK Brann at their home of Brann Stadium, 18 kilometres away in Årstad. Fit in with the locals by wearing the team's colours, red and white.

Whether you aspire to improve your turns or just make it to the bottom in one piece, Hordaland has the slopes you're after. Take your pick from Roldal Skicenter or Sauda Ski Center.

Bekkjarvik Marina and Bekkjarvik Church are not far from the centre of Austevoll, 25 kilometres to the southwest. Looking for more? Fjell, 30 kilometres to the northwest of Os, features Langoy Coastal Centre and Alvoen Manor.

Vangskyrkja, the Hangursbanen Cable Car and Hangurstrekket are all very close to Voss, 70 kilometres to the northeast. Need some more reasons to swing by? Ekspressheisen and Alphaheisen aren't far away either.

Whether you enjoy chasing Michelin stars or wolfing down a simple street snack, sampling the local food and drink is one of the best things about travelling. So why not tantalise your taste buds by digging into some of the area's mouthwatering offerings?

Do you like your moose? How about reindeer? Whether you're crazy about them or not, they are two ingredients commonly used in the cuisine here.

You don't need to agonise over the restaurant menu when you're in Os. Just dive straight in and taste the local specialties, such as raspeballer (potato dumplings) with sausage and svinekoteletter (pork chops).

If you're not one to say no to dessert, you won't be disappointed. Be sure to order krumkake (thin rolled cake filled with cream), a tempting treat that's guaranteed to satisfy your sugar cravings.

For something with a bit more kick, ask for one or two shots of karsk (coffee and vodka). Drink it neat or ask your bartender for any mixer recommendations.

You're heading all the way to the Hordaland region, so why not put in the extra effort to learn a handful of words and expressions in the local language? Trust us, it'll make your whole trip that much sweeter. Try to get your lips around 'Gratulerer med dagen'. It means 'happy birthday'. Maybe you'll find 'Lenge siden sist!' easier to say? It means 'long time no see'.

Don't forget to pencil the 17th of May in your diary. To the locals, this means just one thing — Constitution Day. A prominent day of celebrations, this is an excellent time of year to be in the country.

When it comes time to pack up your belongings, spend the last of your holiday allowance and say one final "Ha det bra" to Os.
