Holidays in Nikko

Can’t even with adulting anymore? We feel ya. Wave the office buh-bye, file those bills under 'Nah not today' and take a break from the world in Nikko!

The population of this city is 16,000.

Nikko lies 20 kilometres away from Shioya-machi, and 130 kilometres away from Tokyo, the national capital.

If you are planning a holiday for the entire family, outings to Big Maze Palladium and Nikko Sarugundan are sure to be popular. If that isn't enough to tire the young ones out, why not make the trip to Tobu World Square and Edo Wonderland as well?

Nikko has some vibrant, green spaces where you can view a whole range of plants. The Nikko Botanical Garden and the Kamimiyori Hydrophyte Garden are the must-visits.

Spend some time at the Italian Embassy Villa Memorial Park and Suginamiki Park and enjoy the feel of the cool grass under your feet.

You're sure to love the shimmering displays of Kegon Falls and Ryuzu Waterfall. The cascading stream of water at Yutaki Waterfall and Kirifuri Waterfall is also an impressive sight.

Sainoko Lake and Lake Chuzenji will truly delight your senses. Not just because of the calming atmosphere and beautiful views that come alongside freshwater lakes, but also for the liveliness of the birdlife that congregate there, too. If you're attempting to explore all the natural waterbodies in the region, Sainoko Lake is another to circle on your map.

You probably know about its best shopping centres or squares, but don't forget that Nikko has some excellent natural sanctuaries too. Nikko National Park and Oze National Park are two to consider. Kanmangafuchi Abyss and Yashio-no-yu Onsen are two more that are worth checking out.

If the weather's not nice, go to the Urushi Museum. With such a broad range of intriguing displays, you may even learn something too! If you're looking for more, try Hōmotsu-den and the Nikkō Woodcarving Center. Tours may be available, so remember to ask.

Our big blue planet is home to an enormous variety of species. Come to know some of the world's more exotic beings with a trip to the Tochigi Prefectural Nikko Natural Science Museum.

If you consider yourself an art connoisseur, make sure you leave room in your schedule to explore some galleries. The Trick Art Museum is certainly an impressive place to begin. After you're finished there, admire the eclectic collections of the Kosugi Hoan Memorial Nikko Art Museum and the Nikko Yumeji Takehisa Museum.

Get a glimpse into times gone by when you pay a visit to the Tamozawa Imperial Villa Memorial Park and Tamozawa Imperial Villa. Why not also spend a little time at the Nemuri-neko and Heikeno-sato?

Take some time out to watch the water ebb and flow below Shinkyo and Kinugawa Hot Springs Fureai Bridge.

No matter your faith, Toshogu and the Rinno-ji Temple can help you get in touch with your spiritual side. Want to take a deeper look into Nikko's religious identity? Continue on to the Nikko Temple and Futarasan Shrine.

Sometimes it's a destination's less well-known attractions that offer the biggest surprises. With that in mind, think about having a look at Kinu Tateiwa Otsuribashi, the Akechidaira Ropeway and Kinugawa Onsen.
