Energetic types can also have a go at popular regional activities like snowboarding and skiing.

Wairakei is another place where you can sit back and get to know the room service menu. Sitting 55 kilometres west of Murupara, it's where you'll find the Aratiatia Rapids and the Prawn Farm. The Wairakei Resort Taupo and Falls Chateau are some of the hotel and apartment options here. 60 kilometres to the southwest of Murupara you'll find Taupo, home to the Sacred Waters and Voyager Apartments Taupo. If you're staying in Taupo, set aside some time to visit Taupo Hot Springs and A.C. Baths.

This regional centre is 60 kilometres northeast of Murupara and has a population of 19,000.
