As that old saying goes, 'we're here for a good time, not a long time!' So get cracking and book that getaway to Mugga Downs. It's the ideal entry to the impressive rural landscapes, rivers, mountains and valleys of Central New South Wales.

It's located 340 kilometres north of Canberra, the country's capital.

If you want to do some exploring, add a day trip to Dubbo to your plan. This destination is 9 kilometres to the southwest and features the Taronga Western Plains Zoo and Old Dubbo Gaol. After more ideas? Cumboogle is 16 kilometres to the southwest of Mugga Downs and is known for Dubbo Observatory and the Red Earth Estate.

There's no better way to wander through the local landscapes than on a fun adventure. Sign yourself up for a bit of hiking or horse riding and get your blood pumping!

Picnicking is a relaxing way to take a breather after long days of sightseeing. If you feel like spending a bit more time in the open air, why not plan to go bird watching as well?

Take the worries out of travel planning by taking some culinary tours and winery tours. Mingle with like-minded travellers as your informed tour guide shows you the best of what the region has on offer.

Picture yourself with wings as you take to the air. Adrenaline junkies can get their kicks by going sky diving.

Walk through the region's art museums, history museums, art galleries and craft workshops. They are excellent places to head to when the rain starts coming down.

If it's not raining cats and dogs, why not take the opportunity to spend the day at the surrounding area's open-air museums, open-air exhibits and farms?

Eating is among life's greatest pleasures, and since you're reading this, we guess you think travel is too. Combine your excitement for both by going out and tasting the local food and drink at the restaurants, cafés and bars across town.

Beef and oysters are some typical ingredients found in many dishes here. If you don't have a liking for them already, you might by the end of your holiday!

Peach melba is a dessert that sums up this place in just a single mouthful. Order a serving and then get another one to go!

Thirsty? Wet your whistle with a glass of Hahn, a brew that ought to be on your bucket (or pint) list.

If the night calls for something a bit more potent, order up some Bundaberg Spiced Rum. On the rocks or in a cocktail — your barkeeper ought to know the most satisfying way to drink it.

The right bottle of vino can complete any tasty meal, and the best regional wines can't be missed. Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon and Orange region Merlot are the top picks here.

The room was nice and the bed was comfortable. Unfortunately there were no power points near the bed which was annoying. It’s a large motel and while there is undercover parking, it was away from my room which was upstairs.
