A September Weekend in Montreal

We arrived a bit early for check-in; more than an hour. Through a bit of miscommunication, we thought we were okayed to check-in, only to find out there was going to be a hefty added fee for doing so. It was quickly cleared up and we waited until closer to/after 4PM. Overall, we appreciated our room accommodations. Points of concern: barn door at bathroom = prefer a standard hinged door for the bathroom; bathroom lighting = need to have a brighter light option at the sink area; fridge/microwave/coffee area = needs to be located in a more accessible area of the room, rather than along a wall by a bed, in the corner. The beds, hot/cold water, air, view, noise level, storage, were all good. Thank you.

The staff was excellent from the moment I arrived. Very charming and helpful. The room was very nice, with floor to ceiling windows. The restaurants were also great, even though the eggs in the breakfast buffet were quite watery. The indoor pool was very nice and clean too. The hotel is close to everything - it only took me a 20 minute stroll to get to Old Montreal or to Mount Royal Park, so I never even called a cab or had to use the metro.

Rooms are very basic. Tables and desks etc are worn out. No real AC in the room, just a fan that could be adjusted. Hard to get it cool enough. Clean and quiet, good location. Breakfast is over 40$. If I'm paying about 400$ a night for a basic room that should be included. Value for the money really isn't there.

When we arrived at around 11:00am we were advised that if we wanted to check in at that time, there would be a per room extra charge. (We had 3 rooms booked) We were told that as we booked with Expedi a, we would get no consideration with respect to our Hilton Honors status, nor get any points. We were advaised that there were major noisy building renovations taking place daily between 8am and 5pm. This included jack hammering throughout the day and swing stages in front of our window. There was no indication of this activity on Expedia’s web site when we booked, or currently. The Hilton website had only a minor note about exierior work being carried out, but no indication to expect extreme noise during our stay. Unless there is some sort of compensation offered by Expedia, we will not be booking hotels through Expedia in the future. Hilton already stated they would offer no compensation as our booking was through a 3rd party..

Location cannot be beat! Construction limited access to outdoor areas of the hotel - patios in particular. Noise wasn’t great during weekdays and hallways were sometimes littered with room service items and didn’t look like they were vacuumed regularly. Rooms were clean.
