What a crashing disappointment.
In 30 years, 49 countries, and a few hundred hotels, I've never felt compelled to complain (I know some people are serial complainers - that's not me) or leave a bad review.
Housekeeping, reception staff etc were all great, and physically the hotel is nice and well appointed...
...but crumbs, the management, policies, and F&B staff were beyond woeful.
Having bags rifled through on the door (we saw an elderly couple having water confiscated - in 40 degree heat), waiting 30 minutes and after three chases getting service from a pool bar (multiple times, I may add)... but worst, having selected a couple of loungers on the completely empty terrace next to our room (with no signage whatsoever saying it was restricted - and even then, we arrived after the 18:00 restriction time), we were ordered to leave by first a member of bar staff, my partner still dripping wet, then guest relations (!), and threatened with a fine of 500 Dirham if we didn't leave immediately.
Never have I been so appalled by what claims to be a 5 star hotel - the Raffles, the Peninsula, Nobu, and frankly, a even a Travelodge puts this hotel to shame.
