The room I was given this time was not as nice as last time. I chose a moderate double which always faces toward the back of the hotel. It doesn’t have a view but it’s quiet. Unfortunately, the shower room in my room, and the carpet had an awful smell.
I asked for a different room, but was told they did not have another room available of the same type. I found this hard to believe in the off season. I also thought they could have given me a higher floor room this time (above 4), considering this was the third time I booked a room here in two months. But no luck.
The room they did move me to was a twin room facing the street. While the smell (and air circulation) was a little better, the noise was terrible at night. I had stayed in this room type my first time here, but it was at the other end of the building. This time the muscle cars were revving their engines right at the intersection where the room is. You don’t expect that in Kyoto but it woke me up many times.
I give this hotel 3 stars and kept returning only because of its convenient location. The room you get really makes it hit or miss, and it should be more consistent with this level of hotel chain.
