Book Irish Settlement hotels

Our room was large and comfortable. The parking lot was also spacious and offered easy access to the facility. The staff was friendly and helpful. Downtown Potsdam, where the hotel is located, is largely deserted, with empty storefronts in most of the historic buildings. However, there is a beautiful riverfront park right next to the hotel that offers pleasant views of the water and surrounding scenery. Also, even though the Potsdam area does not offer boutiques or other high-end shopping or dining options, one can find department stores, discount outlets, grocery stores, diners and practical dining options just a few minutes away by car.

My sister and I stayed 3 nights at Northern Family Motel. The motel room was on the small side, but had a queen bed which was very comfortable. The owners were friendly and pleasant to deal with. We would stay there again as it was convenient to what we needed to do in the area. However, the AC unit was quite noisy, so we used the fan option which was much quieter. All in all a pleasant stay.

This is a lovely home and property. The area is quiet and you don't see/hear any neighbors. The hosts provided a fun scavenger hunt (with prizes!) on arrival.There were many fun water toys: pontoon boat, kayaks, paddle boards. The waterfront area is small, bottom of the lake is not sandy (kids will want water shoes).Highlights: beds were comfortable, kitchen was well stocked, nice fire pit, fun game room.A note that may help future guests: the loft as very short ceilings and is most suitable for young children. I am only 5'4" and I had to duck to get up there. You will not want to plan on using those beds for teens/adults. Also, there is a pack and play in a closet and a highchair in the game room, which aren't listed in the amenities.

The Scottish Inn used to be a run-down and poorly-maintained mom-and-pop motel called The Nomad. The current owners have completely overhauled and modernized the establishment. Now the rooms are up-to-date, clean, attractive, well-furnished and comfortable. This is not a high-end-luxury area. However, for travelers looking for an economical place to stay that is close to practical retail and dining establishments, the Scottish in is an excellent choice. A Walmart store is just one minute up the road to the west. A tasty down-home restaurant called Eben’s Hearth is just a couple minutes away in the other direction. Gas stations, additional practical stores and eateries can be found by driving into Potsdam, crossing the bridge on the left and going north toward the retail strip on outer Market Street. Downtown Potsdam is very small and most of the beautiful historic storefronts are empty. This area would be a perfect spot for an arts festival looking for a location. There is a beautiful park next to the river. This is a college town for students from working-class families. If you’re looking for a friendly, practical, no-nonsense place to stay, eat and shop, you should definitely consider staying at the Scottish Inn and exploring the area.
