I am from Oahu and have been wanting to stay at the Surfrider since I was a little girl. I return for a visit once yearly, and this time decided to stay at the Surfrider and upgraded to a king with an ocean view in the historic wing. Staff was nice on check in, but we were given, I believe, the worst “ocean view” room in the historic wing. All of the rooms in the historic wing have big windows, but we were given a room with two tiny windows that did not open. You have to walk all the way up to the windows to even see outside, and barely have an ocean view. Since the windows do not open, you have to use a/c, and the unit was leaking, causing a big puddle in the middle of the room. I asked if we could be moved somewhere you could actually see the ocean/open the window for trade winds, and for a room that did not have a big puddle from the a/c leak. I was told that would be an upgrade/cost more, so I was *downgraded* to a partial ocean view *for the same cost.* During my stay, I used valet twice, and the rest of the trip parked in the Sheraton garage (also a Marriott property and labeled to be for Surfrider guests) since it was halfway between our hotel and our friends hotel. On checkout, I was charged for valet every night. When I very nicely asked the incorrect charges be removed, I was challenged by front desk staff (in a very rude tone) and asked to prove that I parked somewhere else. This, even though I never signed a contract for daily valet. Very disappointing.

If you come to Oahu, you want to be on Waikiki beach. If you want to be on Waikiki beach, you must stay at the Moana Surfrider. Beautiful hotel, nice room, beautiful Ocean view.

The beach in front of the hotel is great for swimming. We were able to rent beach umbrellas and chairs from the beach services company right next to the hotel. We usually rented in the morning, they often sold out by the afternoon. Bring swim shoes for the beach, it had some rocks. The breakfast buffet is excellent, it has an omelette station, and fresh made-to-order waffles and pancakes. The seating has a view of the beach. We stayed over New Year’s Eve, the hotel threw a nice party with a DJ. We had a great view of the fireworks from the hotel property. Every interaction with hotel staff was excellent. Overall a great vacation at a historic property.
