Albany was Western Australia's very first European settlement, so make sure you check out the colonial buildings while you're here. A bit later, during World War I, Albany was the departure point for many soldiers heading to Gallipoli and there are plenty of memorials and heritage centres where you can learn more about this period in Australian history.
Things to DoIn Albany, take in the views from the lookouts at The Gap and Castle Rock in Torndirrup National Park. You might even spot some dolphins and whales on the horizon if you're lucky.
Love a good hike? Go bushwalking through the Stirling Range National Park and take on the challenge of Bluff Knoll. And if you've still got some energy, you can climb to the summit of mighty Mount Barker.
