This is a wonderful secluded get away near the Redwoods and right on the Eel river. I love the 1930’s styling throughout that makes it feel as though you stepped back in time. The staff was excellent and very customer focused and professional.
As with any older building, there will always be a few things that just aren’t working exactly right. In my case this was the AC leaking a bit of water onto floor when running. However, the maintenance department jumped right on the repair when notified.
This is a beautiful property near the Avenue of the Giants. The king plus bunk bed room was enormous.
The style is like an early 1900's mansion/castle, the room decor matched, but it didn't feel at all run down or aged. The bed was very comfortable. It had a bunk bed in a separate room for my two kids.
The grounds are just as amazing as the hotel. You can walk around and check out the river. We are a great breakfast on the huge back patio. Overall it was a magical last minute find during our road trip.

Disliked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
The surrounding area is beautiful. The hotel is nice and historic. Guest service was poor and unprofessional. Our room was not ready even though we arrived at the designated 4 pm check in time. While we did not mind waiting a few minutes for the room to be ready, we were advised that it was ready until we asked. When we got to the room, it was was not clean. We asked for housekeeping to come but we were informed no one was available. The hotel gave us a new room but it wasn't very clean either as we found used dental floss from presumably the prior occupant. The hotel restaurant has very good food in a nice setting. Hotel charges a nightly resort fee but offers no amenities.

Liked: Cleanliness, amenities
Expensive food choice at the restaurant but food was fine. Breakfast was terrible though. We got 2 little poorly tasting waffles for $16.
The room was big looking over the river so quiet at night.
Could be such a beautiful hotel with a little investment.

Loved everything about the property great food and great views
Lovely facilty, with beautiful antique furnishings.
The tea & scones a nice afternoon treat,
Happy hour didn’t include discounted bar menu items, half price drinks only. Dinner was wonde
Bar staff were more interested in having fun with their bar friends than waiting on our table in the porch.

Lovely building, great staff plus a brilliant setting. Rooms and common areas need some investment as they are definitely carrying an older vibe. Great place to sit and chill

Quiet and secluded property. 2 miles from Garberville, CA
We were pleasantly surprised with our first stay at Benbow Inn, especially with the wonderful patio for summer dining. The food was delicious and the wait staff very attentive. We would come here again!
We liked the quaint charm of this historic inn and the staff was excellent. Our server in the restaurant, Juan, was exceptional and met all our needs. The patio was an excellent place to watch the 4th of July fireworks show.
My only complaint is the windows in our room (204) needs work, they would not close and lock properly.
We spent a night here as part of a road trip around Northern California. We chose this hotel as we’d read that it was convenient to Avenue of the Giants, which it is. It’s an old hotel and desperately needs some TLC (and cleaning of webs!), but the main hall is quite majestic and the terrace is pleasant. They serve complimentary scones and tea at 3 pm which was charming. Dinner is overpriced and underwhelming. The rooms are dark, and feel like they belong in an old mansion. It was an experience and part of our memories of the road trip!
Not a particularly motorcycle friendly staff. We pulled up to check in and a staff member immediately came outside and said that the parking area we were in was for people registering. I told him that’s exactly what we were doing and he said he didn’t see any luggage and I pointed out the two duffel bags strapped to the bike. Later they allowed two vehicles to park there all night. We were accused of smoking twice because someone below us was smoking a cigar. Rude staff!

I put down $100 for incidentals. We purchased 2 drinks at the bar. Reviewed our bill and was furious. A 7.33 tourism fee was charged and a $25 resort fee was charged. The 2 drinks were $20. All in all the resort charged us $54.44. I was blind sided by the add on to our far bill. Is this how you treat your guests.?
Old time decor and a fun destination. The on site restaurant and bar was really good. My only issue, which is always my issue, it was expensive, but in this case it was worth it.
Wonderfully unique hotel that you should not miss. It is old - this must be understood of course. Food is superb. Ambience/Attitude are rare! Complimentary tea & scones, and welcome cream sherry in crystal decanter…
