Sprinkled in the middle of the Indian Ocean are the dinky little islands known as the Maldives. Once largely unknown to the Western world, these little pieces of paradise are on the rise as fantastic holiday getaways.
From the surfing to the fishing and everything in between, there’s no reason you shouldn’t give these islands a go. Just book one of lastminute.com.au’s cheap flights to Maldives and disappear for a bit.
Once Maldives flights land at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (MLE) on Hulhule Island, there’s really only three ways to get around the region: boats, sea planes and private yachts. Take your pick and be on your way.
If you arrive in the morning, catch a short boat ride from MLE to North Malé Atoll so you can beat the morning rush to Malé Market. You better practice up on your bartering skills, because the locals will haggle everything from tuna to a banana.
Afternoon flights to Maldives do exist, and if you’re on one of them, that’s great—there’s still plenty of daylight left. Hop on a fishing boat and toss a line out. Maybe you’ll hook a dolphin fish or a barracuda… or maybe you’ll get skunked and not catch a thing.
Arriving after sunset? Get thee to Maldives accommodation. You’ll probably find something to do—many resorts and hotels have waterfront bars and organised beach parties you can attend.
When in Malé, right? Blend in with the local populace by zipping through the city streets on a motorbike. Take a breather and check out the catch of the day in the fish markets and buy some Malé souvenirs from one of the many shops lining the streets.
We can’t imagine how excited you are to snag one of our Maldives holidays. We’re pumped and we’re not even going anywhere. Book one of lastminute.com.au’s cheap flights to Maldives and hold your excitement no more.
