Excellent choice of accommodation for a stay in and around Durham. My son and I were there to visit the university and it was a short bus journey into the city. Similarly a short bus journey from the train or bus station to the property. Very friendly and helpful staff, especially John, who gave me directions over the phone a few days before we got there. Lovely clean room (in a motel style), beautiful comfortable beds and excellent shower. TV, tea and coffee making facilities. Can park right outside room if you came by car. Lovely bar area, and beautiful breakfast options. The fully cooked breakfast was excellent. All the staff were so lovely and welcoming, particularly John who welcomed us when we arrived. Would thoroughly recommend.

The Honest Lawyer consisted of a central building with bar and restaurant and then 46 motel rooms ranged around a car park. It is on a busy main road although the rear of the rooms looked out over a field backed by a wood. Because it was on a main road it was right on the route of three buses so was great for getting to Durham bus station.The staff were all friendly and obliging and the rooms were clean and serviced well. The main building where the bar and restaurant were had obviously recently had money spent on the decor. Food in the restaurant was middle of the road but tasty and plentiful enough. The rooms in the motel part were adequate enough with two chairs,plenty of sockets and mirrors and a nice warm shower over a bath. They did look a little tired and could do with some updating. Also there were hanging baskets right around the car park in which all the plants were dead. I would stay here again if in the vicinity and would recommend it

Ideally situated to attend a family funeral. Room clean but basic. Comfortable bed. Only negative was walls thin between rooms and woke up to foul loud language from male next room.

Our arrival felt unwelcome when we checked in. Our room smelled a bit damp and was generally quite dirty. Lots of cobwebs, the bathroom was especially dirty with lots of mould around the window and bath. I would not recommend going bare foot either. We had breakfast, which was okay but not good value for money. The location for Durham is good, but that's about it.

Staying for access to university visit. Twin room was basic but very clean. Room was a bit cold but that may have been me being a bit under the weather. Bathroom was small but well formed. No toilet brush was odd but otherwise fine. Walls are paper thin. Quiet conversations are easily audible. Restaurant good. Breakfast was excellent. Excellent value for money

Honest Lawyer, we won’t be returning.

Check in was ok. (Already paid) I told reception that my son’s family(2+child) were coming for Sunday breakfast. He asked me to pay for it so I did. The room allocated was clean and tidy. There was an odd smell, like drains, but we thought it would be gone soon. Our main issues were with one particular member of the staff in the bar/restaura Dinner: We waited for our family in the bar/restaurant and ordered a bottle of wine. I asked the lady behind the bar if I could set up an account for the meal + drinks. A curt response: “No. We don’t do that.” So I paid for the wine. The family arrived, we all wanted main courses, +a child’s meal. There was a good selection of dishes, but rather than hand cooked chips, 3 of us wanted fries. So I went to the bar to order. The response, rolling of eyes and huffing, when I asked for fries instead of chips. I paid for the food and sat dow When the food arrived, only 1 of the 3 requested servings of fries materialised. The others came with thick chips. No explanation. I was unhappy but let it pass to keep the peace. The steak was nicely cooked. Breakfast on Sunday, with the same family members. Woman serving said loudly there was no record of me booking or paying, then went to reception and shouted ”SHE SAYS she has paid at reception” -was very embarrassing. Nobody explained options for cold/cooked breakfast. But when breakfast arrived, it was good. The smell in our bathroom got worse and I reported it to a pleasant man at checkout.

Very good value for money, next to a bus stop to visit Durham. We were allowed to leave the car in their car park after we checked out and collected it at 5pm Very helpful reception staff Food in hotel ok

Friendly staff, superb quality breakfast (smoked salmon with hollandaise on muffin, and a cooked breakfast for my husband). Exterior was very American motel and the place would benefit from an upgrade. However, we thought it was reasonably good value, we could park outside our room, the central area was warm and inviting in feel, bed was very comfy and the room was warm. It was quiet, tea/coffee etc in room was plentiful. Our dog was welcome, and there was a woodland walk adjacent for her to enjoy. We would stay again. Not the Ritz, and complete refurb would not be wasted on this place, but given the economics of that, the price we paid, and that of the competition, we were happy staying here. Thank you.

Pleasant hotel, very motel like which i thought was good, straight to your room after being out instead of the usual trailing through reception and up flights of stairs, great parking too, right outside your door. Great value for money.
