The staff made it a very welcoming experience. The hotel offered upgrades for us that we loved like transportation from the airport, three course dinner, romantic package of champagne flowers and chocolate covered strawberries, and breakfast buffet. Was a great place to stay for one night before our honeymoon cruise. Close to cruise terminal, we walked there.

This hotel is in a wonderful location, across from Dover Beach and marinas. The property is beautiful. Our room was gorgeous with a view. All of the staff members are friendly and helpful. Breakfast was superb. We loved every moment.

Construction around the area was challenging. The restaurant bar at 11am said the ran out of regular coffee to brew. I believe it was the male bartenders attitude and desiring not to work on June 29, 2025 was the reason. Upside was it is conveniently located by cruise port.

Property is almost 200 years old but well-taken-care of. The view rooms are lovely. Splurge on the K bed suite! Only problem was cruise day…staff overwhelmed by people coming and going. Food was very good to excellent.

This is a lovely OLD hotel. Keep in mind it is old, rooms are small, walls are thin & the elevator holds 2 people and their suitcases … it’s small and there is only 1. That said it is very charming. Breakfast was good and its location to the port was great.

It is a real pity that such a beautiful building could be in such poor condition and that it should be so poorly staffed. When we checked in, there was a strong, revolting odor coming from the stairwell; really, it smelled like a cat had been dead there for some time. Took our breath away. We had to request another bedroom because the odor had penetrated there as well. It was completely obvious that the hotel was understaffed. Service in the restaurant and at breakfast was terrible simply because so few people were working. Is this a management problem?

Decent overnight stay before cruise. Hotel is trying hard to bring it back to its once legacy status. A few mishaps but overall I would recommend especially for a night or two. Dover as a town is dying on the vine. Many locals said it has changed and being taken down very by others. Go see the Castle. Not much else to do unless you like shopping at secondhand stores.

The only compliant I had was I payed for a late checkout & and housekeeping, kept on knocking on the door for me to leave the room after I paid for an extra 2 hour check out. The front staff needs to communicate better with housekeeping for future guests who want to extend the extra 2 hours of late check out.
