Check in was good, friendly staff and offered a glass of sherry!
Hotel is very historic and could be stunning but needs a lot of investment. It’s very tired and seems to be stuck in a time warp, but having said that everywhere was very clean. The room was a good size with a bathroom off of a lobby area. But although we didn’t check in until 5pm (2 hours after the earliest time of 3pm), the radiators hadn’t been turned on and so the room and bathroom in particular were very cold.
The bed was very soft and the pillows very lumpy, way past their best!
There was no hot water in the morning which was disappointing as the bath looked very inviting!
The breakfast that was included was served in the panelled dining room and was very nice.
We mentioned our issues the next morning on checking out but the lady on reception said she didn’t usually work there so could only pass on our message.
So all in all, we were disappointed by the hotel which is a shame as the position in Shrewsbury is excellent and it could be an amazing place to stay.
