Rethymnon lies 20 kilometres north. The journey over is made worthwhile by Fortezza Castle alone.

Make sure you bring a picnic blanket so you can treat yourself to a relaxed bite by the water at Golden Beach or Elafonisi Beach.

Break out on an adventure to some nearby natural attractions. 20 kilometres out of Damnoni, Lake Kournas is just waiting to be experienced. Sfendoni Cave, 40 kilometres away, is another superb spot to relax in the outdoors.
