Holidays in Charo

Charo is a destination with heaps of cool stories to tell. If you reckon your life's been a bit boring lately, a trip here is the perfect answer!

It sits 100 kilometres away from Andorra la Vella and its energetic streets.

Escape on an adventure to some surrounding natural sights. 40 kilometres out of Charo, Aneto is just waiting to be explored. Ordesa Y Monte Perdido National Park, 40 kilometres away, is another brilliant place to hang out in the outdoors.

Spend your days alternating between the ice-cold slopes and a toasty warm fireplace at Gourette Ski Resort and Candanchu Ski Resort. From new recruits to old hands, there's something for everybody at these snow-capped wonderlands.

You'll find even more just around the corner. Palo, 8 kilometres to the south, is popular for the Budist Monastery Dag Shang Kagyu and the Torre Museo de Las Creencias. Though, if the Juegos Tradicionales Museum and Caiguila Plaza are more your thing, go 9 kilometres east from Charo to Foradada de Toscar.

You may have the urge to set up base in Ainsa for a little bit. This destination is 10 kilometres to the west and not too far from Sobrarbe Geopark Space, the Museum of Traditional Arts and Crafts and Ainsa Castle. A few other nearby attractions are San Sebastian Church and Ainsa Main Square.

Whether you prefer the stylishness of Michelin stars or nibbling on a snack from a street stall, tasting the local food and drink is perhaps the best thing about travel. So why not tingle your taste buds by digging into some of the region's delicious offerings?

If you're flicking through a menu, there's every chance you'll see meals featuring olive oil or almonds. They're just two ingredients which are often used in the kitchens here.

When the locals talk to you about their food, you're likely to hear chireta (spanish haggis) or bacalao al ajo arriero (baked cod with garlic) mentioned a few times. These classic dishes are part of the area's identity and ought to be on any foodie's must-try list.

Still have a bit of give in your waistband after dinner? Then put in an order for bizcocho de calatayud (sponge cake), a delicious dessert.

Don't let a difference in language get in the way of a fun time! Make your visit to Huesca a more enriching one by putting in the effort to learn a couple of expressions in the local language. 'Buenas noches' may be very handy. It translates to 'good evening'. Another common phrase is '¡Que pase un buen día!' ('have a nice day').

There's bound to be a party atmosphere in the air around the 12th of October. The locals will be getting ready for National Day, a day of national celebrations.

Before you pack up your belongings and wave "Adiós", why not spend the last bits of your holiday allowance and treat yourself to some mementos of Charo?

Do you need to know where the nearest airport is? Well, it's Blagnac Airport (TLS) and it's 160 kilometres northeast.
