The hotel was huge with many floors of stairs and doors. We had the small annex double bedroom. The room was recently decorated, and was tidy and clean. However, the room felt damp, only relying on a small electric heater. The water was very hot in the taps, but the shower didn't work and was freezing cold. The staff serving were helpful and friendly. The food on offer was good, and the fusion curry menu was the best in the UK i have had and having travelled back from a holiday in India.

The staff on reception was cold and unhelpful, didn't even show me to the room. The room was absolutely disgusting. There was a drawer full of very dirty socks that didn't belong to me. The floorboards were rotten. The carpet didn't fit the room and wasn't attached. The toilet didn't flush properly and when it did flush it made the room smell like poo so presumably there's a sewage leak under the floor. The shower didn't give hot water. The walls were mucky. There were marks on the walls and television screen that looked like fist impressions from a violent prior resident. All the electrical outlets were smashed up so there were exposed live wires throughout the room. The radiator didn't work. The door was broken and barely locked. There was a large spider living in the bath. The bathroom was unclean. The hotel boasts having a 24hr reception desk but the reception was always closed and the hotel unstaffed. The breakfast was just little boxes of cereal with fruit, and I didn't eat it given how disgusting the place was. Worst hotel I've ever seen.

Our first two night stay on our three week tour of Scotland. Great dining and clearly a few stars above most. A gem of a luxury hotel. Also enjoyed the movie.

I stayed for one night in May 2026, and my experience was okay. The bed was comfy, and I slept well, and all of the staff I encountered were very kind and helpful. I had dinner and breakfast there, and the food was overall pretty good. However, the property is very dated and when I arrived I found a long piece of wall/wallpaper hanging off the wall beside the main bed. It looked terrible, and the wall beside it was filthy. See pictures attached. I did ask to be moved rooms, and although the gentleman helping me was very kind and did speak to his manager to try and accommodate my request, I was told that the hotel was fully booked so I could not be moved. They did offer me a complimentary breakfast as a result, which was appreciated; however, the general shabiness of the room, with the wallpaper issue and dirty walls, plus glasses in the room that also looked a bit grubby, were all very off-putting, and certainly not the standard I would expect from a 4 star hotel. I would also add that having instant coffee packets at the breakfast, and only soya milk as a non-dairy alternative, were disappointing.

Always a great stay, love this hotel!
