Everything about our stay was wonderful - the refurbished room, the helpful and cheery staff, the excellent food - but for one thing which may seem trivial to some but was the source of irritation to me. I refer to the boring, repetitive, hypnotic, dull and intensely irritating background music played in the restaurant and indeed elsewhere. As a musician I find that my mind strives to hear the detail of any quiet music and when I did I found nothing worth listening to! I imagine that maybe someone with a degree in hospitality, sitting at a desk, decided and decreed that such music would help guests to relax (and maybe spend more) but it had the opposite effect on me in that I soon became tense and cross! I wish you would think again - over the years we have enjoyed compilations of popular music: why not ask the paying customers what they think?
