Lovely welcome from all the staff we encountered. Rooms were beautiful & clean. Food at the restaurant at breakfast & evening were delicious. One small downside- the bed mattress was lumpy but that didn't spoil our stay!

The hotel was lovely, clean and staff were Friendly. Hotel was situated in a great location along the canal with plenty of bars near by if you didn’t want to head into the town which was easily in walking distance. We upgraded our room for a view of the canal on reflection I didn’t feel this was worth it. Was noisy at night with passers by returning home and the smell wasn’t great. We had breakfast added in our stay which was mediocre buffet style felt like it was sat waiting for you. All in all did have a pleasant stay and would return.

This was our second stay , room was very tired and bathroom, shower , etc really in need of change , we had drinks in the bar which is quite nice , we ate in the restaurant which was pretty average to be fair , best thing is the buffet breakfast, room wasn’t worth £92 , 1st stay was better .

Canalside Hotel

Well located, close to the city walls, canal and centre. Good breakfast and helpful reception staff. Never been asked to book a breakfast time before and the times available were too early or too late so we chanced it and arrived when we were ready. There were tables free. We didnt try the Spa so can't comment. I would definately stay there again. Car parking was £12 per day.

Hit and miss

We initially reserved a business class room. After reading the negative reviews about these rooms, we paid the extra to upgrade to a deluxe room with balcony. Room 428. Pleased we did as this room was okay ( not at all deluxe, but okay) . Good size comfy bed. Bottled water had to be requested on both days ( included in room rate). Bar area modern. Breakfast suited our needs. Major letdown - the restaurant. The food wasn’t good. Sent back to the kitchen, second attempt was no better. We felt like we’d wasted a lot of money on poor food. Not sure we would return to the hotel, as it was very expensive and hit and miss in too many areas.
