Holidays in Ban Tom
We all know — an adventurous life is a life well-lived. So dust off your passport, pack your bags and say hello to Ban Tom!
From Ban Tom, travel 100 kilometres southwest to find the renowned city of Chiang Mai Province.
Spend some time with Mother Nature at Mae Puem National Park. It's situated just 16 kilometres away from Ban Tom. Inhale the fresh, clean air and take some time to reflect.
For some exercise and the chance to work on your photography skills, find some time to walk around 90th Anniversary Princess Mother Park.
Want to go to Health Garden Park and the Wat Sri Khom Kham Temple? These brilliant sights are close to the middle of Phayao, just 7 kilometres south. Use this as a base for a little while and do some exploring!
The Wat Phra Kaew, the Wat Pra Singh and the Wat Phra That Doi Chom Thong are all very close to Chiang Rai, 75 kilometres to the north. Want a few more reasons to check it out? Central Plaza Chiangrai and the King Meng Rai the Great Monument aren't far away either.
Your eyes shouldn't get to have all the fun while visiting Phayao. Give your taste buds a little attention too by trying some of the local food and drink. After all, you can't say you've truly experienced a destination until you've tasted its flavours.
An essential ingredient in the food here is vietnamese coriander. One more is culantro. They're definitely worth trying out if you're not already a fan.
Of course, you can't leave Ban Tom without sampling some khao kan chin (steamed pork blood and rice) or khanom chin nam ngiao (rice with pork blood sauce). Popular with residents and considered signature dishes, they are an essential experience for any food-loving traveller.
Take advantage of the downtime on the flight over by memorising a handful of words and phrases in the local tongue. You may be glad you learnt 'Raa-dtree sà-wàt', which translates as 'good night'. Maybe you'll find 'Sà-wàt-dee kráp/kâ' easier to get your head around? This means 'good morning'.
What better way to learn about the culture of a place than by experiencing a day of national celebration? There'll be plenty of festivities planned for Birthday of King Phumiphon on the 5th of December.
"Læ̂w phb kạn h̄ım̀" doesn't have to mean farewell for good. Why not put away a few Thai baht for when you come back?
From Ban Tom, it's approximately 110 kilometres southwest to Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX). This is the closest airport. Remember to allow yourself a bit of extra time to make your way there so you don't miss your flight back home.

Nice spot on the water, but the upkeep of the property has not been done. It's not as pictured. Please note the nice looking pool as pictured is only for a certain type of room you select. There is another pool for the other rooms. It's pictured with a nice cover. That doesn't exist.
