Work tip: Stand up, stretch a bit, book an Aude hotel, grab a taxi to the airport, hop on a plane, never return. Or something like that. While it'll be tricky staying right in the centre, you will find accommodation close by. Take your pick of 2 places within 10 kilometres of Artigues' heart.

The La Chaumière and INTER-HOTEL Cartier are legendary options if you'd like to set up camp near the main areas.

You may like to have a look at some more accommodation spots, such as the Château de Riell or the Résidence Lagrange Vacances L'Orée Des Cimes. The former can be found 20 kilometres from the central areas, and the latter is 25 kilometres away. If these don't suit, we'd recommend you have a look at the Château des Ducs de Joyeuse, which is 18 kilometres from town.

Always on the hunt for that next big, fat adventure? You'll be happy to know that the wider Aude region has some incredible things to throw yourself into as well. Boost your landscape photography game by visiting some of Aude's incredible rural landscapes, beaches and forests. Ruins are a few more places worth pulling your camera out for. If the weather is nice (or even if it's not), you could also get out there and have a crack at some fabulous activities like mountain biking.

Formigueres is another place where you can sit back and get to know the room service menu. Sitting 25 kilometres southwest of Artigues, it's where you'll find the Chateau de Donezan and Formigueres Ski Resort. If you want to stay in Formigueres, look into the rates at the La Résidence les Esplaneilles and Mona Lisa Le Clos des Fontaneilles. 30 kilometres to the south of Artigues you'll also find La Llagonne, home to the La Pradella and Vacancéole - Appart Vacances Pyrénées 2000. While in La Llagonne, make sure you visit Mont-Louis Citadel and the Golf de Font-Romeu.

Peaceful gite in the hills

This gite is a lovely place to stay, nestled in a very quiet and pretty rural location. The home is next to a stream, with woodland and hills all around. You can go for a great walk straight from the front door, and there is a pleasant garden to sit in and enjoy the peace. The home itself is well furnished and cosy, and Patrick was very helpful and friendly for check in and any issues we had.
