The location was unbeatable, walking distance to most everything and to the train, which took us to the central station from the airport in minutes. Clean and comfortable place with helpful and friendly staff. FYI, there is a laundromat around the corner and ample coffee places for breakfast. planning on coming again.

We had other booing at other hotel, but decided to add one more day stay in Amsterdam, so we booked this hotel for just one night. Staff are friendly. Room is spacious compared with the other hotel we stayed. It’s very clean and comfortable, even with tea kettle and tea bags. Location is great, walkable to all attractions. The only thing we didn’t like was the stairs, which are spiral and narrow. We stayed on the 4th floor. That was difficult to climb. We wished someone would help us with the luggage dragging up to 4th floor. Besides the stairs we were very happy with our stay.

Simple, but very clean room. There was a nice mirror. Heater, toilet and shower work great. Excellent location, and 24h front desk. Friendly staff. You can leave your luggage if you get earlier than 1pm, or if your flight is way after the check out. My complaint is definitely only with the noise. Not sure if it is the same on the other floors, but if you can, try to avoid rooms on the 1st floor (#2 and #3). It sounds like you are in a basement and a bunch of elephants are coming down every time someone go downstairs. After 8am, they start hovering the floors, and they don’t care to bump on your door with. I stayed most of the time out, but 2 days I could wake up a bit later (most of the things in AMS open after 9am and later), but it was impossible with the noises. I’d like to get back, because price, location and cleanliness are great but would definitely try another floors.

A no-frills hotel choice. Functional and good location. Very tight quarters, but so is everything in Amsterdam. The staff are helpful and friendly, and provide fresh towels and room cleaning everyday. Other tenants staying here can be noisy, but this is not hotel's fault. Overall good, and I would use again. Very affordable as well.

We went out for a couple hours came back and my Laptop was stolen out of our room. You give them the keys when you leave. (Real keys, old motel) Front desk was no help. Said no one was in there and would not look at the cameras. Front desk gentleman was kinda funny about it. Manager was not available until the next day. Very disappointing. This was our first stop on our 14 day trip.

As a solo traveler, I love to stay here. It’s very centrally located and the rooms are comfortable. I usually only stay a couple days in Amsterdam so the Hotel Van Gelder is a great choice. If you want a simple stay and don’t need a lot then I highly recommend staying here. Good prices and nice staff.

Good location, clean hotel.

The hotel is conveniently located. Our room which was on the top floor was very clean, comfortable, equipped with air conditioner. Bathroom was modern and clean. No breakfast but they gave 10% coupons to nearby restaurants. The only downside are the stairs which are too steep and look kind of dangerous and we were not looking forward to going up and down. But I wouldnt fault this to the hotel.

Nice place, great location

Great place, friendly staff, great location. The stairs are a trek, but it gets the exercise covered. Close to central station. I'd be a bit concerned about how hot it can be in the summer, but I'd definitely consider it.

The location was excellent for me didn't need to get a taxi as I was able to walk everywhere and trams just outside of hotel main train station is less than a 5 minute walk also bars and restaurants all around boat trips 1 minute walk from hotel staff very friendly and helpful i will be back
