Wanderlusting in Singapore

With my eyelashes brushing against the glass window, I can see a peach coloured, Singapore sunset.

To my left, there’s a white, concrete building with green vines hugging the sides. On the ground, orange plastic tables sit on a grey road. Behind me, a neon green light blazes slashing lines in the roof of my hotel room.

Colours keep following me on my trip around Singapore, and my home for the night, the Wanderlust Hotel is a rainbow.

Here’s five reasons to add the Wanderlust Hotel to your wander list:

On upper Dickson Road, The Wanderlust is right on the edge of Little India  , a 15 minute cab ride from the Bay Area.

And you know what? Walking around the streets, I have to pinch myself; it may as well be Delhi, just with less cows and, er, rubbish. There’s hallways that lead to henna artists, jingly bangle and jewelry stores, bright buildings and spicy, savoury smells wafting from food carts and restaurants. It’s bustling!

We’re a ten minute walk from the nearest MRT (Subway) Station – Bugis, and the sprawling Bugis junction shopping centres. Taxi’s roll past The Wanderlust every few minutes, so if you’re not up for the trek (it’s flipping hot), just ask the peeps at reception to wave one down for you.

Hot Tip: Taxi’s in Singapore aren’t expensive. We use a mix of Uber and Taxi’s which are similarly priced.

As we check into our “Mono” room on Level 3, we’re handed a little brown book titled “Itinerary”. It’s our travel bible.

Inside, is every bit of info about the hotel and local area we could need: a subway and bus route map, a list of hotel facilities and a nearby restaurant and shop list.  Guess who just turned into a local in five seconds? Me!

Hot tip: you can turn the book in to a paper plane and use it as a scribble pad, (!) so take it with you.

Beside our bed, is our own personal smart phone, complete with internet and phone calls. Perfect for any traveller who tends to wing situations, ie: me. Love the personalized message ✓ ✓

Phone to use? Don’t mind if I do…

Beside our bed is a fridge stocked with cold water, soft drinks and juice. All complimentary and restocked daily.

Let’s be real, Singapore is a sweat fest and air con is god send. The humidity means it’s hard to distinguish where sweat ends and water begins so choosing a hotel with a pool is essential!

And this rooftop, rainbow jacuzzi with plastic elephants grazing on the side sends me into over drive. Must. Swim. Now!

We sink in for the afternoon and literally chill out watching pigeons hurtle past and land on neighbouring rooftops.

Part of the super stylish Unlisted Collection, The interior of The Wanderlust is Instagram heaven.

Just like fellow Sydney Hotel, The Old Clare, there’s the telltale vintage doctor’s surgery style chairs and indoor plants.

A foosball table sits in the middle of reception. Delicate tiles and stained glass clash with modern art, neon lights, and recycled light fittings. And this is just the first level! Each of the levels are themed differently prompting, of course, a desire to wander and lust over every part.

Level 3 at the Wanderlust Hotel

We settle into Level 3’s “Is it just Black and White?”.  Each of the white rooms on this level have fluro coloured lights dissecting the roof. I waste no time in repeatedly pressing the button that controls ours, watching the colours switch from purple, to orange, red and blue.

Any savvy traveller knows that the first meal of the day needs to fuel you for kilometres of walking and pic snapping. Waiting from 6am in Cocotte, the French inspired restaurant near reception, is a breakfast of actual champions. You can select from the Al la carte menu or gorge yourself continental.

It’s a nomfest, and we don’t eat our next meal until 3 o’clock that day…
