A Ferringhi’n good time at the PARKROYAL Penang Resort
WOOOOOSSSSHHHHHH! Watch out!
I’m on a waterslide. Swaying from side to side in a half open water tunnel. It curves to the left, then right, drops down, faster and faster, until wooosh! I crash land into a pool, fanning water into the air. Sorry if I splash you!
Welcome to the PARKROYAL Penang Resort.
I’ve decided this waterslide is the absolute shiznit and I wanna stay here forever and keep sliding, but wait- maybe I should show you around…
Grab a towel and walk inside with me. Here, an open, ceiling fanned, lemongrass scented reception meets indoor rainforest. It’s tropical, sophisticated, calming – don’t you think?

Just there in the middle, the resort’s lobby bar – Javana Lounge serves up cocktails and refreshing Happy Hour drinks that we can take advantage of from 4pm. You’re gonna need it to deal with the 80% humidity here!
That and the pool. But don’t worry, if you’re not into waterslides, there’s another pool that exists solely for doing this:
Hot Tip: this hotel pool is definitely one of the best in the area (trust me, I looked). And even if you don’t end up staying here, you can come and use it for 50 ringgit ($17 AUD) for the entire day. Your day pass also includes a 30 ringgit voucher to use on food and drinks from the ‘Cool Banana’s’ café while you’re here. Woop! Hello beer and burgers.

The rest of the 309 room resort is built around the pool offering views of the beach or the neighbouring streets

There’s lush green trees on one side, and the calm water of Batu Ferringhi beach on the other. Check it out:
So what are the rooms like? Pretty standard, but super comfortable and there’s enough room for two of us to stretch out in. We’ve got a twin deluxe room that comes with two king singles, and this amazing view.
It’s awesome cos I can watch parasails float past with my feet on the balcony. Parasailing is just one of the water sports you can do here. There’s also jetski’s, banana boats and this blow up couch-thing that you can sit in and get pulled along by a speed boat. All of these can be arranged at reception, or you can wander up the beach and see what takes your fancy. There’s plenty of options.
Hot tip: if you want some beach action while you’re here, make sure you check with the resort staff for the conditions. We can’t swim cos of pesky jellyfish at the mo.
Are you hungry? If you’ve read this blog, you’ll know that Penang is Malaysia’s foodie capital and the place to go to get good grub.
And lucky for us, the Batu Ferringhi night market literally starts in the PARKROYAL car park outside, and sprawls down the street for a kilometre. Keep walking and you’ll come across restaurants and street stalls offering every cuisine practically imaginable- seriously. There’s Indian, Chinese, Lebanese, Indonesian, Western, Malaysian food and more.
Then there’s the shopping. You want knock off bagS? You want sunglasses? You want manicures? You want selfie sticks? It’s all here and ready to be haggled.
Oh, do you like my henna?
I got it last night! It’s so humid that it will sweat off in a couple of days- but hey, it looks good for now.
And what about the hotel brekkie- you ask? Haha, yeah, I’m still recovering from that food coma.

The Tamarind Brasserie is open from 6am and has one of the most impressive buffets I’ve had since the gasp-worthy QT Bazaar buffet on the Gold Coast.

There’s freshly squeezed juice, smoothies, waffles, pancakes, muffins, a selection of eggs, sausages, bacon, cheeses, fresh fruit, dumplings, fried noodles, bagels, stir fries, congee, rice and donuts- OMG.
Seriously, I don’t think I’ll need to eat for the next week.
Ok well, I’m going back to the waterslide. You’re coming, right?
